Yojimbo sort of does his own thing now?

Using the PS3 port but I imagine they're the same. But for some reason Yojimbo has decided that he no longer needs paying a good majority of the time and I don't recall this ever happening before back on the PS2.

What I mean is, I'll summon him and he'll freely use wakizashi and kozuka as if he's in some kind of berserk mode. He'll ask for pay eventually though if the enemies last too long. Is this just what happens when you up your relation with him instead of paying him 1g at a time like I always used to do?

This is a sign that he is happy with you! Continue to mke him happy! I kid you not on my original PS2 save with the longest hours played my Yojimbo does Zanmato for free at the start of every third battle or so.

Wow, that's a really cool little gimmick actually. He actually saved my life with zanmato the other evening. I got fooled by the summoner in Bikanel and summoned him for the first time in a ditch effort. Gave him all my gil and he returned me that affirmative nod that said the last 3 hours of not saving would be just fine.
Felt amazing.

Wow no save for 3 hours and zanmato for the win. Yojimbo, not the hero you deserved, but the hero you needed. lol Nice.

Don't think I've ever felt luckier in a videogame really. Even got an excalibur out of it, though on the downside it was locked with firestrike.

When Yojimbo uses certain attacks, his Affection for you(I guess) goes up or down. Biggest increase is with Zanmato. Raise his affection high enough, and as you saw, he'll launch attacks for free. IIRC the free attacks act similar to as if you paid a certain amount, and high enough affection leads to easily triggering manual Zanmato, and sometimes free Zanmato

I suppose the idea is: To get him as an Aeon, you bought his service. Now you have been buying his loyalty, and he is happy to show what that means.

This can happen on any version of the game, though various Yojimbo details are different with the oldest versions, so the free attacks might not happen as much.

This seems like a phenomenally shameful way to deal with superbosses. I sort of want to just keep him happy with kozuka and wakizashi but not zanmato.
