X is a decent game, but X-2 is easily in my top 3 FF's. It has the best version of ATB combat in the franchise imo. Dress sphere changing and the grids are a lot of fun. It has a ton of content for the completionist and unlimited new game + replays.
I might pick this collection up for a third time if the price is right, and it isn't included in the Square Enix holiday mystery bundle.
No. X-2 is a quality game, 13 is what ruined the series.
FF7 is where FF started going downhill. Square shifted focus away from story and focused on visuals. FFX is where it fell off the cliff. FFXIII is when it hit rock bottom. FFXV just proves it's still there, where the entire story can be told in 1 paragraph.
Final Fantasy 1 is the one that ruined the series, all games after that game sucked.
ff 1-6 were fun 7 was ok 8 was intresting 9 is good 11/14 good mmos and 12 i still need to finish 13s were so borring no open world 10 was good if this goes on sale tomorrow i would buy it but only for a discount since i owened the origanal
I first played this on PS2 as one of the first games I had for it. I absolutely fell in love, and played it *a lot.*
Then it remastered for PS3, and I purchased the collector's edition from Square Enix.
Then it remastered for PS4 and I have that one too. I'm considering getting it during this sale to have as an on-the-go option.
I can do nothing but recommend this here, including for X-2 for which I'm in the camp that enjoys it. I think the different battle style is engaging, and the garment system makes for some interesting playstyles.
To conclude, there's also a ton of content between these two titles, which you'll get for less than $20. Steam offers a refund option, so there's no harm in giving it a try. But if you do end up liking it, $20 essentially bought you a lot of entertainment.
It's sad that there is so much negativity in this thread. I would rate FF10 as one of the greatest games ever made. The number of positives are boundless.
1)It has perhaps the greatest score ever made by man. The music is out of this world.
2) The sphere system was the first of its kind, and it has been emulated by many games since, including Path of Exile- a game whose success is credited to that exact mechanic.
3) The storyline is compelling. Sure, it has some of that wierd Japanese vaginal soap opera to it, but there are many characters with very interesting and compelling backstories. The plot has some very well thought out twists as well. It's consistent and cohesive.
4) Visually, the game was stunning when it came out. The themes and visual motifs were nothing short of completely immersive. It was original and fully believable.
5) The gameplay is awesome. Challenge and reward around every corner. Fights are strategic and tactical. Unlike many games today, you get punished for mistakes and rewarded for your actions. It makes the journey very rewarding, and it requires you to build your party accordingly. Side quests and endgame content is so well developed you will almost feel spoiled for getting so much in one game.
Overall, FF10 is a benchmark by which games should be judged.
FF10-2, despite the negativity, is incredible in it's own right. It builds on the exceptional foundation of 10 while still going its own path in order to justify it being a separate game. I greatly enjoyed 10-2 because I treated it just as that - a separate chapter of the same base concept. Matched my expectations perfectly.
If you like RPGs, then you really will like these two games. Few RPGs in the history of the genre can compare with the quality and sophistication of these two games. Whether you agree with the style or not is too subjective for me to say.
