So don't do it. Not worth it.
So worth it. I did this a while back and it dropped the game down to around 4gb. You did something wrong.
When I open one of the VBF files in a hexeditor I don't see any data that could be compressed, everything looks cluttered up, almost like the files are already compressed or encrypted.
as I said, it's a gui, i made this very clear. learn to comprehend.
bro... facepalm.... just stop using a computer.
WIndows 10 uses different compression algorithms than previous versions. But the default algorithm is not ideal for compressing games. Just doing it from folder properties isn't going to get you decent results. Neither is running compact without specifying /EXE /<algorithm>
It drops it to about 4.8 gigs. You can get it lower if you use LZX, but with diminishing returns for a lot longer time.
Assuming you're on a Windows 10 PC you can skip the GUI with
from the command prompt
If your drive is already compressed you'll want to uncompress the folder first (the default algorithm assumes frequent read/write. You only need frequent read.)
