butterfly hunt east glitch

the blue butterfly north of the initiating butterfly on the east side does not appear. i ran through the east maze hoping it got moved for some reason and it appeared i did collect 7 of them. the flash happened and the chest appeared but my reward was an ether and not the saturn sigil.

is my game glitched?

That's not a glitch. I can tell that you're still playing the story, because I ran into the same thing recently and did some research. You can get two different rewards before you kill the Macalania Woods boss, one of them being an Ether. You can get two new rewards after you've killed the boss. And then again two new after you get the Airship, one of them being the sigil.

so should i have backtracked after the boss fight? can i get back there before the airship to claim the second set of rewards? are they worth backtracking before i get the airship if it is possible to get there again?

None of the rewards except the Sigil are worth it in any way.

I agree with Hinnyuu. You can probably backtrack, but the time spend on backtracking and on the butterfly challenge isn't worth it IMO. The two Mega Elixirs might be tempting to get, as you can use 20 of them to get Double AP on a weapon, but you would still need another 18 of them, so there are better ways to get AP weapons.
