each pass, shot, tackle or block gets an rng roll and can be up to 50% under or over the actual stat number.

for an easy story match win, wait until second half when tidus has enough hp for the jecht shot. hide out for the first half and most of the second half at your goalie, then get the ball to tidus, jecht shot, win

8-0 or even 10-0 wins are fairly easy for the right team. Team composition is crucial, as the right players will be SIGNIFICANTLY better than alternatives for their respective position.

My personal favorite strategy is using Brother as midfield, taking advantage of his high speed to coral the enemy team in a corner of the field, then passing long to a forward for an easy goal. You can repeat that every 20-40 seconds or so, which is how you can easily get 8+ goals in per match.

At some point, your stats also tend to grow so much beyond the enemy teams (if you keep your ball possession high) that you can even do things like take the ball after blitzoff and just score from the midline. That's usually how the highest scores are achieved.

In the end, though, it hardly matters by how much you win. It's rare for enemy teams to come close to your Top Scorer in league, even if you only win 1-0/2-0.

To do that you need to be really knowledgable about blitzball and its skills. best to play loads of games normally, and then restart the game and use your skills to win.
The reason most ppl have difficulty with that game is because your team members stats are deliberately worse than the opposition, and ppl are un-used to playing the game.

Basically during the first half you pass the balls between your players so that hopefully each player gets enough xp to gain a level and unlock a new skill. Then it gets a lot easier in the 2nd half, but after X goals or X time, Tidus will leave the sphere regardless as a swap for Wakka. However, Wakka will have souped-up stats now.

Don't worry TOO much about winning the story game if it's your first time playing. The game doesn't do a great job of explaining it, and the Aurochs suck. As soon as the League opens up, you'll basically want to drop every single one of them.

Pretty much this. During the second half, give someone other than Tidus the ball and let the Goers chase you towards your own goal. Once they're bunched up, pass it to Tidus and have him run for the goal with a Jecht Shot. If you're lucky enough to score a goal, then you just need to run out the clock. There's a glitch where they'll stop chasing you if you take the ball and hide behind your own goalie, so make use of that.
