Gas masks actually working?

So, I've noticed a lot of ops seem to have gas masks, some more obvious like the SAS ops. Do they work as they're supposed to? Potentially, could a Thatcher charge into Smoke's grenade without being hurt, because he has a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ gas mask?

Smoke's gas is said to be a special one created by himself. Only his mask can filter it

While the other SAS characters have gas masks, they aren't properly sealed against biological agents like Smoke's suit is. Mute and Thatcher don't have their masks attached to anything (while smoke has a respirator on his back), and Sledge isn't even wearing a full hood, since his bald head is exposed. Smoke is the only one wearing a proper suit that would actually protect against the gas.

Smoke has a special filter on his mask that leads to a tank on his back.

Mute, Thatcher and Sledge, albeit wearing gas masks, don't have this filter, so they're still vulnerable to the gas.

Though Sledge's mask isn't airtight, so he wouldn't be safe even with the filter.

He's not completely obsolete though. You still have to make a lot of noise to destroy it.

He's not completely obsolete though. You still have to make a lot of noise to destroy it.

Sledge can smash it quite silently. A silent breacher he is.

Edit. Anyway, castles gadget is very questionable for your team.
