Yeah there was an update. Update 18.01 on Thursday 7th March. Depending on time zone that could be yesterday / today.
I too have been having issues.. Frequent disconnects blue cobra. game crashes occasionally with the box that asks to ''Send' or 'Do not Send' crash report. It has been pretty unreliable for the past 24 hours or so. Past two weeks were fine connected for long periods of time. Just the past two days it has been pretty bad.
Fair point.
When it comes to Elite, I base everything on the in game clock (UTC/GMT, making the update this morning).
Sorry to hear about the crash.
Please send us a support ticket via https://customersupport.frontier.co.uk/hc/en-us/requests/new and our team will take a look.
This afternoon GMT seemed a bit more stable. As Planewalker pointed out, the disconnects may have been a local outage or stability with the particular server I was connected to. I have however, been getting this weird issue where when I start the game client it sits at a black screen for around two minutes before the Elite Dangerous Odyssey screen appears. Only thing that has changed since before the update was the latest Nvidia driver which was installed via Geforce Experience. Geforce RTX 3060 Ti on Ultra settings 1440p. Wired connection to router. Rebooted router etc.
I've cleared shader cache, carried out some general checks, verified game files, rebooted etc. In game this evening stable but still getting the strange long wait after starting the game and the client sits at a black screen for a while.
Might be worth purging the driver with DDU, and then reinstalling it.
You can call fix-it-felix by contacting support via the link provided earlier in the thread.
Did you use DDU in safemode to purge the old drivers first? Try it if you haven't already. I'm usually lazy and don't bother with safemode, but recently there was an issue where I had to use it in safemode to fix it.
-the windows update idk if was fixed, the nvidia issue should be fixed by using the newest one from their webpage. -whether hotfix 18.01 exacerbated the issue, i can not tell you, but i do know the other two issues haven't helped either.
While frustrating there is no reason to go all in on the animosity. :D
Things I have tried
- DDU of Nvidia drivers twice using the latest and Feb versions, Feb driver was what I was playing on pretty much when it was smooth and stable)
- I've tried clearing all cache Nvidia, Steam, and ED.
- Done re-validate of files both through steam and the ED launcher no issues.
- Removed the game, deleted all folders including AppData\Frontier folders and then doing a reinstall. Same issue
- Checked allowed app through firewall etc is present. All good.
- Checked language set to English in launcher also tried system default. No change.
- Tried running the game letting it detect hardware and it setting high preset. game runs ok. I exit Relaunch, issue still present.
- Tried Deleting the Options\Graphics file and letting it re-create them. Nope.
- Started looking at Nvidia control panel for anything off. Nope.
- Tried with Windows firewall and AV off. Nope.
- Wondered if it was an account issue. Unlinked from Steam and relinked nope.
- Checked to see if it was an input issue, KB, Mouse, Controller etc.
- Have tried lots of other things but I've done so much over the past two days I forget what I've actually tried.
Oh I also tried just running without Steam and running EDlauncher as administrator.
Also tried turning of the shader cache checking options and back on etc.
Pretty much everything I can think of.
I run a computer repair company, I built this PC in Jan, not super high-end but adequate enough to run ED at Ultra at 60 FPS constant at 4k also has 7 TB of High end SSDs, I game a lot.
I will be frank or bob or whatever you want to call me lol... this issue was introduced directly after the update. my game ran fine without even a hint of a crash for 30 days until right after I installed the Thursday patch. In fact I think I installed the March driver on the 55th or 6th which was before the update, game ran fine.
I'm all out of ideas. Ticket has been opened but seeing im a techie sorta guy I thought I'd try sorting it myself with the help of Google but I'm done. Guess it off to the folk at Frontier with me lol.
Ahhh I did do DDU . twice but yeah I was lazy and didnt do safe mode DDU. I also did custom, clean install with Feb Nvidia driver. Maybe I will try but I'm not hoppeful, sat night no life, I wanna game lol. o7
Honestly don't waste your time mate, I already did DDU in safe mode, didn't change a thing, still hangs as soon as the window opens.
I'm having the exact same issues as you, word for word, I've done everything you've done and nothing has worked, including allowing it through firewall (it was already allowed) and adding the whole installation folder to a whitelist in my antivirus.
If I wait and wait it will eventually load, but try and connect a controller or joystick, boom, instant lockup and crash. Try to play with keyboard and mouse, constant disconnects and errors and even straight up CTDs.
Also I noticed that the keybindings are completely broken, it doesn't even give a default option for game pad controls anymore. Like you, never had issues anywhere near this calibre until update 18.01 so don't wind yourself up trying to fix it, it is Frontier that needs to mop up this mess.
