Using Dualshock 4 Controller doesn't work arghghgh
I have played this game with a DS4 no problemo before. Every time I reinstall the game some setting breaks it is so frustrating. Why can they not make a game that recognises and works with a controller that is connected in 2024.

My controller with STeam input enabled works just GREAT until you get to the ship. Then pressing a button just does random things like talk in local chat or no difference between O and X buttons in the menu which leads to more frustration. How in the sweet ever loving christ can I get this game to work with my controller.

I don't use the DS4 in Elite, but I do have one... Some games get kind of screwy when using it over bluetooth, using a USB lead tends to be more reliable for me.

Generate a reference card on https://edrefcard.info/ and post a link, I'll have a look at your binds for you.

I was thinking about setting up a DS4 profile anyway, for streaming gameplay to a different PC...

I use a PS4 controller via bluetooth connection without a translation layer, such as DS4. I haven't had issues at all using only the controller support that is native to steam.
I know you've probably already taken a look at this, but could it be a bindings issue? I've been playing with my controller for years but vaguely remember going through and setting various controller button presses as bindings or secondary bindings for various actions back when I started playing Elite Dangerous and realized that, for me, a KB+M wasn't going to cut it.

I'm USB with my DS4 and have never had any issues with it other than a couple double-bound actions but they are minor. I think I did have to change one or two things from my first idea because it was activating two things at once. Odyssey made that more problematic but I got it down to just silly stuff like warning me of an incorrect HUD mode for something when I do something else.

My buddy played with an Xbox pad and his would often lose bindings on updates. He had to back them up and copy them back to the game whenever it happened. It may be less of a controller-specific issue and more of a computer-specific one causing this.

If it is bindings that you can untangle but they keep getting reset on updates, hopefully backing up the custom bindings file can help until you find out why they are getting changed.

Just to clarify... I'm not sure about OP, but I was using "DS4" as an abbreviation of "DualShock 4". Not the ds4 compatibility thing...
