SOLVED: This steam account is not linked to a frontier account

Hey all,

Just started playing again recently, and about 6 hours ago, I clicked play in Steam and it would open the launcher, recognize my linked account, and I could press Play and everything worked fine.

At the moment, when I try to launch the exact same way, I get the message that my steam account isnt linked to a frontier account.

I'm not aware of having a frontier account, I merely logged in via Steam afaik.
What would be the correct set of actions to remedy this? Create a Frontier account and link it to steam? Will that erase my progress?

Right .. so I verified if I do or dont have a frontier account, and I do .. re-logged into it, re-created the steam link and everything is fine again. Sorry for your time.

I have just tried to log in and ran into the exact same issue. Logging into my Frontier account using the credentials in my password manager and relinking the Frontier and Steam accounts seems to have resolved the issue for me.

I can only suspect that something went very wrong in Frontier's authentication systems or that they were, for whatever reason, forced to reset at least some people's account links.
It would be good to know if all Steam players were impacted.

It's happened on my main account and an alt as well. I guess relinking is the only way, other than waiting for them to sort it out.

They weren't.

I've been watching with bewilderment as a bunch of people complain about it.

No issues on my end though... Apart from one of my jumps last night took about a minute longer than usual to load in to the next system.

This randomly happens to me every other day. Closing the Elite launcher and Steam sometimes fixes it, but not always. There's something unreliable going on. Usually it just plain works, and even after it showing that error it magically fixes itself after a couple restarts, without me having to enter any credentials. Frustrating.

EDIT: just happened again. Fixed itself after three restarts this time. No changes or credentials entered on my end. Constant internet connection, no connectivity issues.

IT is an issue with steam update/auth servers.

Re/linking can worsen the issue.


I got the "this account is not linked" a while back.

Only fix was to not only restart steam, but my pc; turned out a steam update got "stuck".

Thank you for sharing this. Restarting my PC worked when restarting Steam didn't.

@GrumpyGramps, if you're reading this, could you edit the first post so people who come upon this know? There are many impatient ones who don't have the attention span to read the whole thread.
