ED keeps launching in VR mode...
Even when I clearly select "Play Elite:Dangerous Horizons" and not "Launch Elite:Dangerous in Steam VR Mode" the game keeps launching in VR mode. Instead of showing one single image on my monitor it displays twice side by side.

+1, also being driven nuts by this.

Also stuck with this; you can't manually change "side by side" in the game options, and deleting local content and reinstalling didn't work

Why don't you talk about things that are common to each other to try to find what's causing the issue. I know mustgetout's using Nvidia control panel's optimise settings option for example

Does it do this if you navigate to the installation folder and using launcher. exe? if it does then its not Steam causing it. Is there something in the in-game graphics settings to disable 3D, make it output to monitor only?

Just go into the graphics settings and turn off the 3D option.

pull out your VR-device when/before launching the game. it's just one cable, and a fix might come later. the whole technology is still very early

I don't have and never have used a VR device on this system, so it isn't that.

Nvidia experience can't over-ride it with Optimize, or manually configuring it.

There's no VR option in the options except "side to side", and as I mentioned, clicking on it doesn't work. A friend also expected there to be "VR HMD" or "HMD headphones" options, but they don't exist either, probably because as above, there's never been VR equipment on this machine.

This is what my options look like; notice me trying to click it off via mouse

THE SOLUTION > Use the enter key to manually access the options, then arrow key to move up and down to get at the "Off" option. It seems the mouse is not accurate to some places in the menu; I could never get it to accept a "Cancel" click either, always having to exit the options via "Accept"

Going to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Elite Dangerous and using EDLaunch there didn't change it. Likewise, originally I had "/edh" as a Startup option and removing that (and thus changing the start up launcher configuration) never helped either. I never manually set this option so I've no idea where it came from.

The only fix that worked for me was to run the geforce experience optimize

very frustrating indeed.

"ED profiler" seems a good tool to handle different graphic presets before the startup of the game

when you say 'in VR mode' do you mean the game comes up windowed? or that Steam VR is just barking at you?

when I play with VR unplugged I still get Steam VR barking at me and I get Oculus app loading but the Elite game is in full screen when I start it.
If yours is not then you need to change the to full screen after having played in VR.

I think that is the answer, go to settings and click full screen and pick the resolution you want

Guys... look at the dates; this thread was nearly 2 years ago. It was an issue where Frontier screwed up the config during a patch. Geforce Config forces it back into alignment as mentioned though... or manually fiddling with it as I did.

Necromancer here LOL :steamhappy: Happening to me Dec 2021 on all-AMD hardware. This forum was one of the first results I got from googling! :happy_creep:
