Game won't launch.

No matter how many times I delete & re-download Elite Dangerous, the game won't launch. I get the Frontier splash screen with a popup stating that the game needs an update. It says to set the updates to High Priority, which I did, and restarted Steam. But the game simply won't load.

Note: I do not own Odyssey, just Horizons.

OS: Windows 11.

Any tips?

Ach it's a super annyoing issue becuse there is no rhyme or reason to when it happens.

The fastest thing to try is spamming enter after starting the game in steam; it should select elite in that fraction if done correctly.

The other thing is to run the launcher as admin once, then verify game files via the launcher then restart steam. Last option is adding /EDH to steam launch command.

1. Use "Steam Log In" on launcher. (also make sure you have linked with steam on web)

2. Try deleting the launcher, verify files & start again. (Input code & restart steam)

3. Contact support. (attach dxdiag / netlogs; make sure it's ticket not bugtracker)



4. Advanced if you want to try:

UPDATE REQUIRED: (FIX)
First, make sure you are using the correct email/account to log in. (it happens, don't laugh =)
Go to your Steam folder, Steam\steamapps\common\Elite Dangerous and start the EDlauncher.exe
Select Elite/Horizons/Odyssey bottom list > check/click UPGRADE
(may have to use arrow keys to scroll the list)

2nd option:
Open the launcher as admin from the directory and in options disable Enable Cache Check.
Then CLOSE the launcher and reopen as admin and then click "upgrade". Restart after update.
-be aware that the upgrade can be slow, so patience is in order.
