How to fix no sound in headphones

Hello just posting this just in case someone needs help with this exact problem

if you say unplugged your headphones while playing elite and you find you have no audio period upon restarting the game

go to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Elite Dangerous\Products\elite-dangerous-64

and open AudioConfiguration.xml in a code editing software (ill be using Notepad++ since that what i got to work)

now where it says "<AudioAPI>0</AudioAPI>" your going to change this to 1 then highlight the first 8 lines of code

the highlighted area should have all this in it

"<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<AudioConfig>
<Latency>
<RefillBuffers>4</RefillBuffers>
<SamplesPerFrame>1024</SamplesPerFrame>
</Latency>
<AudioAPI>1</AudioAPI>
</AudioConfig>"

right click on the highlighted section and select the option "unblock comment"

then up at the top click
file, save


and congrats your done!

Nice job! Never had a problem with Elite doing this but a lot of unreal games play up if you change audio mid game. Wonder if there is a similar fix.

Thank you very much, this was the culminations of about 16hrs of trouble shooting and about -5% help from frontier so i wanted to save anyone the trouble just in case some poor sap is on google trying to figure this out

I have a similar problem. Oddly, it was resolved not by the above, but by plugging a cable into the headphone jack, even without a headset attached, the problem went away.

Interesting. Are you using Realtek Driver?
