im using older drivers with pro studio control panel instead the newest one that came with AE cards - maybe thats could be the cause?
or perhaps you have set 24/192kHz audio quality in windows control panel - that sometimes brings issues like cracking and weird sound glitches. if so, change to 24/96
At 48KHz (typical default that many USB/wireless headsets are limited to) or lower, then it's like a bowl of rice crispies (snap crackle and pop) because there's just too much info being sent to your audio device.
You can try 24bit, too, if you like. But 16bit will work for sure, and it should cause no problems, whatsoever.
The audio device isn't sending the data. It's receiving and processing it. Higher settings allow it to process more information, faster. Lower settings mean it can't process as much, as quickly ;)
Aye it's a bit of a pain in the ass, but if you've got a decent set of headphones/hifi system (I'm assuming you have, because there's not much point in the sound card if you're just using your monitor speakers lol) it's well worth it... The game sounds amazing once you get it right (24bit 96KHz is the sweetspot for me, with a pair of analogue creative cans).
I have some decent headphones, but I prefer to play with BOSE 2.1 speakers. In the settings I had 24bit/96kHz. I'll try 24bit/48kHz.
My USB2 Roland audio card handles 5.1 playback at 96kHz/24bit. But if I push it to 192kHz/24bit, it barely manages to play stereo.
Frontier actually recommend 16 bit @ 48kHz, or higher... source[customersupport.frontier.co.uk]
They state at 44.1kHz there's noticeably degraded audio quality... I notice very similar audio artefacts at 48kHz.... I don't get them at 96 or 192kHz. 192kHz plays oddly quietly in Elite for some reason on my system though...
24@192 is overrated anyway, while it does give you more headroom, most audio equipment can barely handle 24@96 properly - the dynamic range only goes so far (192kHz @ 16 bit up to 96db, @ 24 bit up to 144db, most audio equipment will
The higher setting is usually better, because it can process more audio data without having to compress it as much (compression is one cause of the audio artefacts, going beyond the dynamic range of your hardware is another).
I tried different options 24/48 and 24/96 and the problem persisted. Then I reinstalled the driver for the sound card and played 24/48 for a few hours - the problem did not appear. Tomorrow I will try 24/192.
but with windows 10 all changed!
After several problems i simply removed the card and use the mainboard onboard sound.
similary sound but waay lesser problems.
Soundblaster and Win10 didnt fit
