Federal rank by combat?
Hello guys,

I wanted to increaser my federal rank so i can unlock the corvette, however im not sure that data farming over and over feels much fun so… i wanted to build a combat ship to rank up.

Is it viable even if its slower to rank up?
How can i look for systems with conflict zones that has missions and increase qith federation in inara?

No matter what you'll have to do the mail job each time you want to rank up. According to the wiki, "For players to be promoted through the Federation's ranks, they must complete missions or other favourable activities with minor factions aligned with the Federation.". No clue what "favourable activities" are, but perhaps that does mean doing combat bonds would increase your rank?

To find CZs, you just search for systems with "War" or "Civil War" state, aligned with the Feds.

Anything that gains you REP with fed-aligned factions counts. Even if you max out your reputation with one, it still counts as rep with the Federation after that.

Conflict zones on foot and in ships, bounty hunting (and turning in the bounties) - all count.

It is indeed possible to gain military rank through combat, and it's how I ranked up my own Federal Navy rank. However, war zones aren't the way... you need to run combat missions for Federation-aligned factions.

The trick is to find a system with a lot of Federation-aligned minor factions, with only one system within ten lightyears where a criminal faction is present. One such system is Gliese 868, which has six Federation-aligned minor factions, and all "kill pirates" missions in the system will send you to the LP 932-12 system.

All you have to do, is take as many "assassinate pirate" missions from the Federation-aligned systems in Gliese 868 (or your system of choice, but Gliese 868 is the best system I could find), along with "Massacre Pirate" missions which can completed at the same time (as assassination kills count towards your massacre objective). You can stack up to twenty missions, and (with a good combat ship) complete all twenty within an hour or less. This will rank up your Federal Navy rank quite quickly, and earn you a good amount of money once you are Allied with the mission giving factions.

Funnily enough, the same missions from LP 932-12 will send you right back to Gliese 868, but you would need a medium ship to land at the outpost there.

Are pirates missions similar as CZ? Never did any before

Pirate ships tend to be much easier to destroy than CZ ships. The exception being the wing missions, which send you against elite FDLs which I've found to be the strongest NPC ships in the game that aren't Thargoids.

You will receive help from the system police ships, but if you're like me and want to solo the pirates, you can turn "Report crimes" off. This makes the missions a bit more difficult, but the pirate ships will scale to your combat rank, so if you're still low ranked, they'll be pretty easy targets regardless.

The best way to take on pirate massacres is to ensure the destination system has a ringed planet with a 'RES [Low]' POI. You can kill the pirates there, and they won't be higher rank than competent. Even if your missions are threat 8 wing missions.

For massacres, yes. However, for grinding Federation rank, it's faster to do the Assassination missions, as the mission is complete as soon as you kill the target. Assassination targets spawn while you supercruise, or you can fly to their POI to confront them. They won't spawn if you simply camp a res site, however.

If you stack massacres with assassinations, you can always head to the POIs once all of your assassinations are finished if you still need additional kills to complete the massacres.

Wing assassinations only spawn at their POI, but with solo assassinations the target will interdict you, and/or show up wherever you instance.

Wing assassination targets spawn in supercruise as well. However, they don't have interdictors and won't interdict you the way solo targets do, so you have to interdict them yourself if you want to avoid flying to their POIs.

I don't recommend taking wing assassination missions unless you feel like you can handle the work of four pilots, however.

Good info here for you. I would add, while combat missions are a fun way to grind rank, make sure you also have a good cargo ship so you can take a break from combat to run cargo. My point is, when you have more than one way to do the rank grind, its funner.

The current CG is for a fed faction, so participating will also increase your rank.

Conrad Hub in LTT 2974 used to be a generous source of federal rank in the form of massacre missions. I don't know if it still is.

I actually did my Imperial rank grind first, and used a Cutter for my Federation grind. It worked as both a combat ship, and a cargo ship, because all you need is one 8A prismatic shield to tank all NPCs, while the remaining slots can all be cargo racks.

1) Try to log out log in.

2) If you moved to Gliese 868 like suggested above you will find a low, regular and hazardous extraction site in LP 932-12. If you stack pirate massacre missions you will be able to complete them in there.
