Type 8 vs. Python (original)
The Type 8 clearly bests the Python for medium pad hauling and will replace my Python in that role when it becomes available for in-game purchase. The question for me is, of the roles excluding combat, exploration, taxi, and hauling, where does the Python beat the Type-8?

Long Winded Explanation:
I currently use my Python mostly for med. pad hauling, rescue, material farming, and mining, re-configuring it as needed. I'm thinking of just making the Python my miner (my patience/skill for mining is more limited than the Python's cargo capacity) and using the Type-8 for the other activities. I have specialist ships for combat, taxi, exploration, etc. so those roles are filled.

Excluding all those (which the T8 is better at anyway, barring combat), there's only one left...

Mining.

And even that's debatable...

You have to keep in mind, the Type 8 is a step up from the Python in terms of what you were using it for.

The Type 8 certainly looks better on paper, just checking to see if I'm missing anything. However, I'm probably not going to completely abandon the Python, hence my thought of just using it for mining since I rarely run out of cargo space before I run out of time/patience anyway. They Python has been a great "everything else" ship and I would rather not have it become a hangar queen.

Edit: Clarification

I have 2 fully engineered Pythons - one kitted out for Robigo passenger runs, and one kitted out for mining - which up to now has also done double duty if I needed a medium hauler. The Type 8 will become a dedicated medium hauler, so won't replace either Python, which I still think is a better miner due to its superior agility and better hardpoints. Can't see any other role that the Type 8 could really be used in.
For combat it is a tough choice between my Python Mk2, FDL, and Mamba - or maybe I just want to have fun and take the Vulture or Imp. Courier out for a spin.

Erm... What? Python is a slow lumbering brick compared to the T8...

I'll be the crazy one that says it.y python became an impromptu explorer 🤣 then again I also used a cutter for exploration as well... Basically, make of it whatever you want. There may be better vehicles for X or Y, but it falls on your own preferences. I'm also the type who see people say "that doesn't work well" and I'll do it just for the giggles (taking a cutter deep into the black is hilarious)

We all get joy in our own way. I like to make sure that any new ship I build out is better at the task than the old one, engineering is a PITA.

I still have yet to fully engineer anything lol. I have a DBX that I often switch to a "Pre engineering" config so I can check out some of the places many skip over now with massive jump ranges.

I just consider engineering as another part of the game like mining, ground combat, search and rescue. It's nice that engineering is available for us to choose to do if we want to.

Gathering the materials is a bit too grindy for my taste, or at least it was (I have yet to feel the effects of the changes to materials gathering).

I don' think engineering is really optional except for exploration & xenobiology. As our combat rank climbs, so does the difficulty of enemies. At the higher levels you pretty much have to be engineered to survive combat against the engineered NPC ships, especially if you are a mediocre player like me.
