There is literally nothing stopping you from doing both. I've done both, nice to take a break from bounty hunting for a while with some nice relaxing trade runs.

I used to be a smuggler and a small-time trader. The more illegal stuff I carried the better. Crashed a couple of times while learning to smuggle but it was so damn fun !

Now I'm a BH because smuggling tends to be repetetive and it's also satisfying and good money.

If I were you I'd start with smuggling because the money is the best for a begginer, and then switch to something else like BH (Cobra/Viper) or trading (Cobra/Hauler).

I might have to agree with this sentamentality.

While smuggling is definitely the "hardest" kind of credit earning you can do...it's also the easiest and quickest to do ( presuming you aren't doing one that requires you to find and steal cargo from a ship ).

Being that you are in a sidewinder at the start...you can afford to die over and over again until you get the hang of it, and its going to teach you a LOT of lifeskills in this game, like how to avoid dying the best way and what to do when you are wanted. Which will translate into every other aspect of the game...and you learned it first thing.

That being said though..every other aspect of the game works just fine at the start...even Mining.

Don't tell him to mine or he'll probably rage quit in the first few hours :( it's the most boring and least profitable activity imo.

Mining is actually prett profitable, its just not up there with trading in a Type 7+ ship or pre 1.3 RES farming.

It's also extremely simplistic and easy now with the limpet collectors. And because nobody cares to go into RES anymore.....its as safe as it ever was lol.

Resource Extraction Site. Its now been converted to "High / Low Intensity" Sites, and doesn't require resource rings around gas giants to generate anymore.

They are filled with asteroids to mine..and also happened to be a large gathering spot for pirates / wanted ships / security forces. So it made bounty hunting easily and efficient.

Aww those yeah I know them somehow didn't realize RES is a shortcut. I hunt pirates in these atm :) maybe its nerfed but it pays good for a guy in a Cobra anyway.
