If you cant make the Frameshift to it becuase of range, that one reason, second one is it a permit only system? In you map if you have asolid route line then you can make it until it becomes broken up, Plus I sure you can only plot 100ly's. Maye someone else can explain it better with a little more info from you like, ship, it jump range, the system your leaving and were your headed too,

Beginner's ship :/ Darn shame. Easy 3,000cr delivering some fruit. And I can't plot a route. lol.

There's no limit on distance; you can plot routes of hundreds or even thousands of lightyears without an issue, even clear across the galaxy. The problem is most likely that his ship can't cover the jump distances required for one or more of the jumps in any possible route.

Just had to upgrade my drive. The upgrade allows me to travel 2LY further and voila. Thanks for the replies.

there is a limit currently sits at 1000ly, anything more than that and you'll get a route unavailable message. I did hear rumor that they were working on fixing this in powerplay

Is that a hardcoded limit or is it dependent on some other underlying factor? I have no first-hand experience with that, I've never had to go more than like 270ly in one trip.

I imagine that it was set at 1000 because it seemed "silly" that anyone would need more than that, and also it probably is a large strain on resources to calculate and store said information for distances that long...especially if you just happen to like sightseeing in the galaxy map.

it's a hardcoded limit, I'm 20k out in a an Asp right now and I've gone this far plotting 22 separate 1000ly jumps. if you highlight anything over 1000ly you don't even get the option to click the route planning button

before steam, there was a patch to make it 1000, it used to be 100

That must've been before I got the game back in January, because wow...that would've been a pain in the arse. Only being able to plot a route 100ly at a time is only marginally more useful than the early EVE-Online beta's autopilot button that didn't do anything yet! <_>

Calculating those really far routes will come down to your cpu and ram. Its not uncommon for the game to seem like it crashed/froze for a few minutes while calculating the route.

especially near the core. get within a 1000ly of sag A and route planning becomes almost impossible. I've let it go once and it took 2 mins 43 sec to plan a 970ly route through sag A
