Don't go to the "RES" sites, just go to the rings away from the RES. Pirates spawn in RES sites. When you first jump into a ring (away from a RES) there is a chance there will be 1 pirate (and/or a cop) after that they will not spawn. I can easily mine 3M+ worth of the 3 P's (Painite, Platinum, Palladium) in my Python in 2 hours this way.
Belts are useless.
Their status is static.
A "pristine metallic" will alwatys be pristine..
A "depleted metallic" will always be depleted.
The materials found on plantes is only good for crafting (Synthesising). You can't put them in a refinery and even if you could it woudl take forever to pick them all up in the SRV.
Once you've level 2 scanned the body the reserves level is available in the info panel in the system map.
All bodies in a system has the same reserves level, so you only have to scan one body to check whether the system has pristine reserves.
Also, all uninhabited systems have pristine reserves from what I've seen.
