My ship JUST exploded... FOR NO REASON!
So I'm out in a RES bounty hunting when all of a sudden my ship just blows up. I wasn't even taking shots and I was many KM a way from any rocks. And the only message I got was was the computer voice saying "power usaged exceeded" or some thing like that. I LOST 5 MILLION CR!!!! I am SUPER pissed and I might not go back to the game again. I don't understand why I just blew up. This game does a real ♥♥♥♥ job at telling the rules of the game, especialy when it comes to what will and won't get you killed. And I'm a Asp piliot so taking BS deaths cost me CR and that cost me time. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I AM SO PISSED RIGHT NOW!

sounds like you exceeded your power usage

What does that mean? And why did my ship explode?!

Did you watch your heat? Was it an Eagle? (Those things get hot!) Um, sorry, you said an Asp... no idea then, sorry. Thargoids, maybe? :/

sounds like a pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ glitch i've noticed also that if you arent careful and are docking with likle 1% hull left your hsit can just explode from the damage of the docking sequence.

At 1% hull you can probably blow up from a breeze, though... ;)

This sounds like a glitch indeed... :( Never read anything about this happening before.

By the way, are Asps useful for bounty hunting at all? Kind of saving up to get one, but mainly for exploration, but if it's decent in combat as well, that's great.

I notice that the majority of NPC ships that are mining in RESs are Asps, so it seems like a pretty good all-round ship, then.

Silent mode could of been enabled by accident is another way, but you could of also been rammed into by something.
ASPs are decent for bounty hunting, personally prefer the Fer-De and the Vulture.

If Silent Mode was enabled, wouldn't the messages have been something like 'overheating imminent' or something instead of 'power usage exceeded' like the OP had?

Never seen any of the messages myself, so not sure though.

A theory though: If you equip modules that use more power than your power plant can provide with hardpoints deployed, and you don't set some of them to priority 2 (normally the FSD and cargo hatch), maybe the ship will simply explode if you try to fire the weapons...? :P

Have no idea, though.

No, if I'm not mistaken it just blows a fuse and turns itself off.

Like, everything, including life support.

Then you have to turn everything back on manually (making sure you don't go over the limit).

But, since with everything turned off it cools down, no exploding (unless something crashes into you or you crash into something while your shields are down).

Yeah, but a Vulture will work just as well and not cost as much. Asp are good at everything, mining/trading, bounty hunting, and exploration. That's their real bead and butter. Get bored of hunting then out fit your asp to mine or explore. Very veristile but costly.

It was the Feds.. They've been leaving indescreat packages on board peoples ships whils you are in docking. Timed explosives to go other at an indiscriminate time.

Get revenge... F*%K THE FEDS !!!

Here are the events as I remember. I was colosing on an Python, I had 1 - 2 rings of shields and 70% hull. My Asp is almost maxed out, Class 5 A power plant, 5 A power dis, so my heat was nowhere near hot. I didn't run into anything and even though I was in a fire fight I was not taking any hits at the moment. Then the computer voice message about power usage then POOF! No more ship and I'm out 5,000,000 CR

Seriously though. . . the message "Power limit exceeded" only happens when you are trying to use more power than your reactor can supply. It is not something that should ever worry you if you are on top of your module prioritization.

You should set 3 priority groups like so:

1) (Bare minimum functionality for when you have taken serious damage to the power reactor) Thrusters, life support, non power hungry weapons (projectiles)

2) Life support (some people put this in priority 1 - I don't), Shields, Weapons (lazoratorz, PA & the other power hungry weapons) & sensors.

3) (This group will cut out when you deploy your guns and for that reason its all things that you cant use when your hard-points are out) Frame Shift Drive, Cargo hatch and Fuel scoop.

When you use too much power (likely to happen when deploying your weapons as they don't use power until deployed) group 3 will shut down allowing all systems in groups 1 & 2 to continue to function. If you take a kicking and your power systems are failing then group 2 may shut down allowing you some extra time to either do some damage to your attackers, take evasive action or type some horrific obscenity to your attackers with your last breath.

If you don't set groups like that then your ship will treat all systems equally, deploying hard points will shut down ALL systems if you haven't got sufficient power... and then you are about as much use as President Halsey. HAIL THE EMPEROR BASK IN HIS GLORY.
