By the way, are Asps useful for bounty hunting at all? Kind of saving up to get one, but mainly for exploration, but if it's decent in combat as well, that's great.
I notice that the majority of NPC ships that are mining in RESs are Asps, so it seems like a pretty good all-round ship, then.
If Silent Mode was enabled, wouldn't the messages have been something like 'overheating imminent' or something instead of 'power usage exceeded' like the OP had?
Never seen any of the messages myself, so not sure though.
A theory though: If you equip modules that use more power than your power plant can provide with hardpoints deployed, and you don't set some of them to priority 2 (normally the FSD and cargo hatch), maybe the ship will simply explode if you try to fire the weapons...? :P
Have no idea, though.
Like, everything, including life support.
Then you have to turn everything back on manually (making sure you don't go over the limit).
But, since with everything turned off it cools down, no exploding (unless something crashes into you or you crash into something while your shields are down).
Yeah, but a Vulture will work just as well and not cost as much. Asp are good at everything, mining/trading, bounty hunting, and exploration. That's their real bead and butter. Get bored of hunting then out fit your asp to mine or explore. Very veristile but costly.

You should set 3 priority groups like so:
1) (Bare minimum functionality for when you have taken serious damage to the power reactor) Thrusters, life support, non power hungry weapons (projectiles)
2) Life support (some people put this in priority 1 - I don't), Shields, Weapons (lazoratorz, PA & the other power hungry weapons) & sensors.
3) (This group will cut out when you deploy your guns and for that reason its all things that you cant use when your hard-points are out) Frame Shift Drive, Cargo hatch and Fuel scoop.
When you use too much power (likely to happen when deploying your weapons as they don't use power until deployed) group 3 will shut down allowing all systems in groups 1 & 2 to continue to function. If you take a kicking and your power systems are failing then group 2 may shut down allowing you some extra time to either do some damage to your attackers, take evasive action or type some horrific obscenity to your attackers with your last breath.
If you don't set groups like that then your ship will treat all systems equally, deploying hard points will shut down ALL systems if you haven't got sufficient power... and then you are about as much use as President Halsey. HAIL THE EMPEROR BASK IN HIS GLORY.
