The Adder
I picked up an Adder, last night. And I was wondering, how viable would this ship be for mining ? What would be a good set up, for strictly mining ?

Is mining even worth the time and effort ? Or should I just deck it all out with cargo racks and haul goods/trading ?

Definitely better money trading in it.

That ship used to have issues with a partially obstructed scoop, so mining would be a pain if that's not changed.

its a nice little ship for smuggling. thats what i would do with it

When I'm bounty hunting in resource extraction sites I see a lot of NPC Adders mining, but I haven't tried it myself. Many people say that mining is currently very tedious since you have to manually scoop up the minerals that you mine into the cargo hold.

But if it's your cup of tea to mine this way, that's all good, and the Adder can be equipped to have quite much cargo space for it's small size, so that is a plus when mining.

I used the Adder strictly for trading, and this earned me enough to get a nicely equipped Viper which I have now (still have the Adder stored, though).

It's also an excellent ship for exploration, since it has a large fuel tank and can be equipped to make jumps of like 40 light years in one jump, if I remember correctly, So the 'pros' use the Adder for exploring instead of the Asp, which is also an exploration ship, but costs millions.

I'm not making a lot of money off trading so far, some yes, but not a lot. That's why I was thinking of mining. If scooping ore is tedious, but the process is lucrative that's fine by me.

Yes, I should at least try mining to see how it works exactly. Don't know how long it takes to shoot at rocks with your mining laser before some of it breaks off and you can scoop it, or how the refinery module works.

But since some metals are worth 10,000+ per ton, it should definitely be lucrative if you find them, and if you have about 20 ton storage capacity in your Adder, it would be a good ship to mine in. 200,000 profit per mining trip isn't bad.

As stated above wait wth miining till 1.3. The Adder can equip an class 2 mining laser. Will be of use later on.

For early exploration i strongly recommend the Lakon Type-6. Jumprange around 30 Ly for around 6 mill bucks. Much cheaper as the Asp.

Well this guy, definitely seems like he's making pretty good money off mining in an adder. And it looks a lot more interactive then trading.... I think i'll get the gear mounted and give it a run tonight.

I'll report if I found it to be worth my time or not.
Holzinternet Apr 15, 2015 @ 12:37pm
Try it. But remember you have to scoop all pieces manually. Thats annoying after a while. With 1.3 we will get drones that do this for us.

Hope to see your report tomorrow.

I'm actually cool with the manual collecting. I've got kids and a household etc.. so I don't usually get to play till later in the evening... I've been catching myself nodding off in the middle of my trade runs LOL... Which is seriously hampering my profit margins...

So im hoping it's more productive, especially more engaging.

So interesting HighPlainsDrifter...I too was looking for an Adder, my first upgrade ship, and finally got one last night. Looking forward to seeing what it can do.

Let me add: It took me a while to find one. I wish there were a tool (perhaps a part of a trading tool) that gave an accounting of what ships were available in what systems.
