Every star system discovered
So there saying we have about half a million players...ish, in my reconing based on that do you think every star system will be discovered in the life of the game ? i mean we are talking billions of stars, for me it seems pretty impossible to have them all discovered and named ?

Discovering over 400 billion stars seems unlikely in any realistic time frame.

To be fully mapped out each and every body in every system also needs scanning.

There's around 4 trillion things to scan then, taking an average 10 bodies per system.

This is an interesting thought. Could it be an idea that the first person to discover a planet got to name it? Or maybe too much work for the staff to go through all the cencorship rules about naming? :P

Its already there I think.

HOw many star systems have stations if it's all done with procedural generation, does it mean a vast portion of galaxy has no station or are stations randomly spread around everywhere?>
Bjørn Apr 10, 2015 @ 4:33am
No I think only the currently known systems of interest (as of 3301) have any (human built) stations. The other systems are there purely for exploration so far, so that stations can be added later after they've been discovered.

You might bump into the Thargoids, though... ;)

stations only exist within the populated area of space at the moment.
However beyond that you'll find Earth like worlds and suitable Terraforming candidates.
These are worth quite a few credits when you turn in the data.
Eventually populated space should expand to these new worlds, based on the data players provide.
Have a look at the recently finished community goal in Tsu for example.

Human populated space is only the small area around Sol (just a few 10000 stars maybe). It is slowly expanding though.

Alliance has grown LOADS since release.

so is it worth heading toward Sol as a first expedition ?

Firstly, everything around Sol is already discovered. Secondly, you'll need to raise your rank with the Federation to get a permit to visit Sol.

The latest figure I saw was that only 0.02% of systems had been discovered to date.

There are 400 Billion systems.

wolfe.uk - You need a permit for the SOL system. To get one you need to advance as a Federation member. Go to a Federation station or outpost and do the missions to advance rank.

I came back last night with a ream of pages and managed to tag another couple 100 things but I think there will probably be stuff to tag still in 100 maybe even 200 years. since not everyone is exploring. for one person to just visit each system your looking at it taking over 12000 years. that is if there truly is 400 billion. i'm not a mathematician so i can't really work out how long it would take if 100,000 ppl were discovering say 100 systems a day. not even sure what the average is atm or even if there is a way of finding out which systems have already been discovered without going there yourself. is there an api type thing in place to track these sorts of things? my guess is if the amount of ppl exploring grows without there being a way of looking at the galaxy map and seeing which ones haven't been visited, its kinda a guessing game which will amplify the amount of time it takes to uncover them all.
