Also - no offense - but the game needs more than pretty ships to actually call itself a "game" at the moment ^^
I am sure that as time goes on and FD start adding more ships they will break from their historical models and branch out. ED's ships look functional, and have the right size, they look like something a company would put into space.
I really like the first ship you linked, but the others do not fit in with ED's art direction. But then again we don't know what the Thargoids (only alien race we know about) ships look like so you never know.

You also perhaps have not seen.

How does designing a ship like a block of cheese simplify space calculations ?
So because of that jargon we have to have boring looking ships
*sigh*
Boring in your opinion anyway... I find them intresting enough. Then again, i care less about how a ship looks and more about what it can do.
I dont think Elite's task is to focus so much on the ships. Though anything else is missing also, but thats another story. Mostly you dont look at your ship though, so spending lots of money on other (better?) models would be a waste.
