Can I play with mouse and keyboard?
Yes, you absolutely can.

It will not detract from your experience of the game in any way to play it without a joystick.

I made a short video on this as well as a few changes to the keybindings that might be helpful to a new player that is not used to playing space sims: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NITaOu7NSFI

Hope that can help answer that initial question that might influence your decision to get the game or not.

To be clear KB+Mouse and this game is not for everyone. I could not get a handle on it or a 360 pad. I would recomend at least considering getting a starter joystick like the Logitech Extreme 3d Pro. Then if you really enjoy the game upgrade to a Saitek x52 Pro. Which is the best supported HOTAS for this game.

ok just because I've been burned on sims so many times I have to make sure...the logitech 3d is supportted AND works? Remapping, the throttle works, all axis work etc. Has actually used it? I swear to God the next time I buy a sim and it only supports xbox BS I'm going to die.

Game looks fun but I gota have a stick :)

A few keyboard/mouse tips:

Bind the "yaw/roll button" (I use right mouse button) that way you control pitch/yaw/roll all on the mouse. Use absolute mode and make sure you turn on the arrow widget. WASD for directional thrusting/mouse scroll for forward/backward thrust.

You really don't need a joystick for ED. A mouse works great. It's a little esoteric, but once you are used to switching between roll/yaw on the mouse aiming is a piece of cake

I think I must use pitch/roll about 30% of the time and pitch/yaw about 70%.

Even a old logitech 3d + keyboard combo makes a tremendous difference compared to the keyboard and mouse.

I'm sure most have a old joystick laying around, use that with your keyboard.
