Stratum Tectonicas? where???
I'm on a HMC planet with guaranteed Stratum Tectonicas. I've searched 1 hour straight. tried several hotspots. no luck.

What type of terrain can i find them? I can't find ANYTHING on google or forums.

Did you do a DSS scan or are you just assuming because it is a HMC planet that it will have tectonicas?

Have you found any samples? If not, how do you know it's guaranteed to be Tectonicas?

According to the tables its stratum. I Can see on eddsn that the only stratum the planet Can have from its athmosphere, is tectonicas. The DDS says stratum.
What's the surface temperature where you are?

If you're near one of the planets poles, or the dark side of a tidally locked planet it might just be too cold (needs to be above 160K I think 165K - I checked).

Look for reasonably flat open space as well.

If you've done a DSS scan, go back into orbit, find the sunny side, toggle your cockpit mode between analysis and combat mode to hide the blue surface, then land on an area that is flat, swap back to analysis mode to make sure there is meant to be Stratum there and then glide along the surface. These things are everywhere and easily spotted.

I use this. its 99% accurate. sometimes there are exceptions. and finding the life youre looking for isnt a given, these are just the conditions needed.
If you don't mind using external/third-party apps alongside Elite, I'd highly recommend ED Market Connector and the Canonn Science plugin for EDMC- both are a HUGE help for doing Exobio, and don't alter/affect the game data (aka they're not mods, just utilities- and are allowed by FDev since they don't affect the game itself like mods would)

[both available from Github here: https://github.com/EDCD/E♥♥♥♥♥♥♥Connector , https://github.com/canonn-science/EDMC-Canonn - a quick side note about Canonn, you may want to quickly mute EDMC upon opening/change the settings for Canonn and check "stop talking to me" as anytime there's an update, it has a LOUD static noise before/after the automated msg plays...and it may peak your speakers/headphones ._.] EDIT: didn't realize the Market Connector link got...bork'd because it thought it needed to be censored...? if nothing else, a quick google search should bring up the Github page as first result....

Canonn is the more important bit for exobio [though runs in/requires EDMC], as it adds the tracker for bioforms on-planet as far out as low Orbital Cruise, so you can narrow down the location from orbit and land near the marked site- also gives a hot/cold indicator [changes from grey to yellow to green when you're closer to/aligned with the proper heading] w/ heading and distance to the plant listed

(to use, select the DNA icon- it'll show a list of all bioforms in the system/which planet they're on w/ an estimate of reward for the data (shown as "(#$) [bioform name] - #1 #2 #3 #4 #5" after selecting the planet, with #$ being how many million cr the data sells for) once you get close to the planet (within orbital cruise) you can click the #1-#5 to get the heading/distance to it)

The github link for EDMC doesn't work because of steams link filtering. It really doesn't like the letters that begin with D, and end with T just before the C. Apparently "D" and "Market" combined is the name of a known scammy website.
(for ref- EDMC/Canonn use a player-updated database, with data collected by other players who also use EDMC and share their findings....so chances are if there's not at least 3 sites listed for a bioform, it's either not there or hasn't been claimed/turned into Vista Genomics (so...while searching for that unfound form may be more pain, it could also net you a first-scan bonus...)

Also forgot to mention, if you have a Inara/EDSM/other supported website page, EDMC can be used to connect to/update your info for that as well (as the name "Market Connector" implies, heh)- just grab the API key from your Inara/etc page and add it into EMDC from the settings ^-^
