If you're being attacked by his station then it means you've not yet had an invitation from him. You have to get that first, and then fly his 5000 light years from start requirement, before you can actually land at his facility. Also you'll need to deliver 25 Thargoid sensor fragments before he will modify your drives.

If you haven't already then you'll also need to unlock a couple of engineers that precede him on the chain.

Here are two good place tos look up what you need to do for engineers :
https://inara.cz/elite/engineers/
https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Engineers/

They both contain the same information, so which you prefer is a matter of taste.

In addition a great (and I think best) resource is the Inara section on Engineers, gives you the unlock requirements
All engineers [inara.cz]

In addition, this is best used when combined with creating crafting lists using the blueprints (found on Inara site under the Menu "COMMANDER / INVENTORY AND CRAFTING.

Make sure you are registered with Inara, with your individual API, and you can create crafting lists for each ship by creating "tags" for say, your ship name.

Your crafting list will show exactly what materials are needed to craft each blueprint, and you can also click on each material and it will tell you what it is and best way to get it.

Also, reads off your inventory and tells you if you are short materials / how many you have/need, or if you have enough, what engineers do that (with grades), and if you have access or not.

You can also adjust the crafting list requirements, so say you only need grade 3-5, you can adjust and it will show only the materials needed for grade 3-5 on the blueprint.

They just attack? Or was it because of OP attempting to land without requesting docking permission?

Hmm, well I was attempting to land, did not see the usual docking request, perhaps it was both. All I know, my ship went bye bye, as did I, I got massive fines (ok, 400 credits, lol)

That very much sounds like you've not had an invite yet, but we're waiting on you to answer that question as nobody can help until that much is known.

if you can manage to get a classified relic. A thargoid relic. You can skip the entire LY step

I wouldn’t recommend taking the Thargoid relic route because I don’t know how accessible the process of creating one is anymore, and there’s also the fact that your modules will take damage since the relic is corrosive, unless you have a cargo hold resistant to that. what I’d do is set aside some time with a high jump range ship with an SRV then just pick a system that’s at least 5000 light years away from the starter systems and start jumping, it’ll take a few hours, but then on your way back I’d visit a crashed thargoid and use your SRV to pick up the sensor fragments, if you can’t find any just relog and more will spawn, a simple google search will help you find a crashed thargoid

Well, it is true, I did not have an invite, trying to get the sensor fragments now :)

That will take a while, even with the Mandalay (77 LY). Trying to find a Thargooid crashed hip and not having much success there either

Has he contacted you at all?

Perhaps a better thing for me to ask would be this:

Have you seen Marco Qwent through to rank 3-4 yet?

No, I have not. Been thinking I need to. However, I have gone to rank 3 with someone else.

There's our answer. Yeah, I'd not bother with any of his unlock requirements until you've done those two things. First you need to deal with Martuuk, and then Qwent.

After that I'm afraid both of the options you have: Relic or 5kly, are a slog. The latter is the path of least resistance. Then it's the sensor fragments after that.

BTW: If you have the credits to throw around, you might be able to find a player carrier selling Thargoid Sensors when it's time to do so. Actually, if you have the credits now this is one thing you can get over and done with tonight, as the sensor fragments won't be going anywhere from your inventory once collected.

If you can, buy some from there, fly some ways away from said carrier, and drop them. Promptly destroy them and pick up the fragments they leave behind.

Far quicker than finding them at crash sites if you're willing to spend the cash.

Well, I have done the Martuuk and Qwent trips, got both of them. I am now trying the 5k route, I've flown 5.1 K LY from KHUN. No idea where my "career" started, figured I would have flown far enough out.

Logged out and back, Palin is still not showing up in my Engineers list. Suggestions??

While this guide may be somewhat *outdated, it is quite solid no idea if you can use it tho.
