(Forgot to mention, I wasn't grinding all day. Just two fully mined T-9 runs per day.)
I'm just playing normally, maybe getting a few thousand.
Same, and this week I only have 2 'merit missions'.
The best and most fun earner for me are power restoration missions.
That way you can't complain about grind and that there is nothing to do after a week.
You can't just enjoy the game, that's preposterous!
Hehe.
Now let's guess which players will still be flying around in Elite in 2 months time.
Each rock has the same number of chunks ... per commander in the team.
If you were really dedicated you could multi-box four accounts, and just have 3 sitting there doing nothing except stripping each asteroid for the main account to hoover up.
I'm just going by what he told me lol, not sure if he's a multi-boxer but it only works in very specific boom systems that we already control I believe. He makes roughly 80,000 merits per hour doing this.
Yep, not saying that particular commander is flying 4 ships at once, just that it's possible.
After all, if you have 4 in a team and they get 4 x the chunks from an asteroid, and each scoops their portion ... it's no different to mining solo. Unless 3 players aren't picking up ores, it's not faster.

I'm still quite curious, because 100k+ in roughly a day is quite massive.
Another idea would be they stack the "sell mined good" merit earner and the "sell at high profit" bonus. Selling highly sought after commodities one by one made me 32merits per ton (selling in bulk makes less) when I tried. A 720tons cargo is worth 23k on its own. Selling 1 by 1 was tremendoulsy annoying so I didn't, just tested. I imagine you can macro it to avoid the annoyance.
EDIT : I will try the 1 per 1 commodities at high price, to see if it's still works and all that. Found a trade route on inara.
Alas, it's now, clearly, a fairly decent money-maker for Frontier. It's also why we will never have multiple CMDR saves: Community has proven it is willing to pay for the privilege instead, even if they aren't using it to multi-box. We very much only have ourselves to blame here, except of course those of us who have only a single account.
