...are both available, for credits, at your local Rescue Megaship.
Apart from that - all you need is lots of hull reinforcement (HRP - available all over the place)
A ship that runs cold and fast is also very useful.
Engineering will make this equipment even better, but for the smaller targets, it isn't essential.
Right now, with the recent events in Sol - it is also quite easy to find other Cmdr's to team up with, and this can make things significantly easier.
If you want to help but combat seems a little hard, you can also help evacuate refugees and won't need weapons at all.
These tips won't make you into the ultimate Thargoid killing machine - but they should be enough to get you started if you decide to give it a try.
Hope to see you in the AX zones Cmdr! o7
Scouts? Go get something like a Chieftain, or even a vulture, hit up a rescue ship and toss some of the new auto cannons on er', and have fun. Just watch out for the big boys. Side benefit, cheaper rebuy while getting hang of it too with a lowkey ship. And remember, every kill counts, from scouts to hydras. So like ya, don't pay as well, but once get hang of em' they are a "consistent paycheque" if get what I'm throwing down.
Ground settlements under attack are good "training wheels" instances too(for example, prob just go farm some scouts, maybe a cyclops or two here: Camp Donalds, in Wolf 359 tonight once my AX ship arrives here), the interceptors in atmo don't have ze fishes, so worst gonna really worry about is when they pop their shutdown wave.
Oh and caustic heatsinks, they're very useful, even one. Bout extent of my knowledge after year or so of AXing it up with next to zero experience other than the nightmare that Sosong was for me before the war started. I've contributed to about two hydra kills, and I'm one of those madmen in a fully engineered Anaconda(or at least, most time I've put into AX fights has been with her), so like I'm not expert lol or meta pro, just yeah, I don't feel like struggle with it, and when don't feel like effort of dancing with interceptors, found just quickly kitting out a ship to hunt scouts is always a good time in lieu.
Unless, like I did with my alts, the OP just buys the required weapons from the rescue megaships.
The game changes over time. This was one of the changes introduced early in the Thargoid war (2 years ago?) so people didn't have to engineer weapons to join in.
The myth about the old ways being the only way persists though.
If you can get a group of 2-4 together in a PG at a ground port CZ you can make an absolute fortune.
yes, the hydras show when the CZ ends. You've won at that point, and can reinstance if you don't want to fight the Big Bad.
Yet another Sighman gem on the nose. I didn't know that and the fight just became a matter of time...
