How To Compare Ship Components
Is there a way to compare ship upgrades when browsing different internal modules and weapons, etc? Also, is there a built-in automated system that warns about buying something that is not compatible with my current ship?

In game you can just highlight a module and check the stats. Relies on modules available in that station though.

Out of game, you can use https://edsy.org/ or https://coriolis.io/ to plan ship outfitting in advance.

But it doesn't show the specs of the module I currently have installed beside the one I might want to buy, so I can compare them. Is it necessary to remember all the specs of all the installed modules and weapons etc when you're browsing potential upgrades?

Look for the change indicators. For instance if you're looking thrusters, you probably don't need the full stats, as you can see the change each new part will cause if fitted. If it's a positive change such as higher speed, it will be green blue (apparently). If it's a negative change it will be red.

Otherwise, use the ship builders to plan it... It's just easier.

You get full price back selling modules. That plus the red and blue indicators when viewing another module with on already installed would be one way to compare things in game. Though I will second the recommendation for Coriolis or EDSY for serious outfitting.
