Brain tree farming, help needed
I am following instructional videos on how to farm from brain trees, but it just simply DOES NOT WORK!. I use the flack cannons, they drop the mats I need, I send out the limpets, but the limpets just crash into the ground. I have tried angling the ship differently, I have tried backing up so the brain trees dissapear (while also angling the ship) I have tried around 50 different angles and methods and I am at the point where I am pulling me hair out, it just simply does NOT work. can someone please help.

EDIT: New way found, you must use the flack cannons on the braintress as usual, then, level your ship out level with the ground so you see 0---0 infront of you, then use the right stick to move upwards to between 900 - 1200 meteres from ground level, then deploy the limpets. This way, the braintrees glitch out and your limpets angle it perfectly, you save so much time doing this.

Limpets used to be fragile, then they were made almost bulletproof, now they're weak again.

The limpet/brain tree guides were made while limpets were bulletproof.

Try going to a crashed conda and collecting raws from there instead.

Can confirm, raw mat limpet farming no longer works. If you want stuff off the brain trees you'll need to land and use the SRV, as was intended.
SRV is your best friend dude.

600 or 700 meters away from the ground.
Always worked for me.

No.

It has been a few months since I've done any brain tree farming, but at the time, the trick was to be to back off until the trees themselves just disappear from view before releasing limpets.

If you are dong that and the limpets are crashing into the ground, then it sounds like something significant has changed. The distance to de-render should be more than adequate for the limpets to properly orient and not crash into the ground.

Shame really, limpet farming is a lot more fun than SRV farming.

you have to release the limpets from higher altitude. 800m+ over ground.
The limpets usually crash not against the ground but against the trees.
When you have more distance between ship and ground, the collision model of the objects (brain trees) is greatly simplified, hence limpets don't collide with them so much and usually most of them survive.
Bomb the entire patch (personaly I find dumbfire missiles much better at this)
Climb to 800m+
Open Cargo Doors
Release limpets
Sit back and watch the mats rolling in, from time to time release more limpets when some die.

I'll say, I did exactly that the other day. Tried at 800m, 1,000m, even 1.3km. Limpets went down, hit something, and died.

I'd recommend you take another try at it. Feel free to give us a video showing that it still works.

This has been patched out

Agreed, this is what I do too.
The more you do it the faster it goes.

Would be bad however, if they patch the fact, that you can pick things up with the SRV as long as you touch the material.

It doesn't have to be positioned perfectly like when using the cargo-scoop on a ship.

Oh ok, its a while ago I was last time doing this. Could possibly been patched. When I go farming next time I will check.

I've seen some youtube videos mentioning that taking out the brain trees with ship weapons works as it used to but that now you need to collect the goodies with an SRV which will obviously be MUCH slower than the old limpet method.

Trundling around Dav's Hope in an SRV still works, as does farming pirates.

I could fill with limpet method in ~2 minutes.

Fill with SRV in ~6 minutes.

So yes, it's about 3x longer to SRV but in the grand scheme of things it's just a few minutes.

SRV is more engaging and aside from timing a limpet fill up I stuck with SRV.

If you can go from empty to full in 6 minutes with an SRV you are a champ! Takes me a good half hour.

Drop mines/missiles as if you're going to do limpet farming, before you land. Saves a bunch of time because you don't have to bother shooting them out of the trees. Ok it's only a few seconds per tree, but it adds up quickly.
