If you have Odyssey you should get into exobiology/plant scanning - the payouts are great!
Not sure what happens if it is one you are already mapped in the past, I am guessing I am going to start running across those soon and you either get nothing or next to nothing for it.
What I personally have been doing is taking one of 'deliver 8 units of so and so' to something 140-200 light years away, so I had to stop and refuel a couple of times before I got this new ship. Change the settings to economical routes so that you are stopping at way more systems, like 25-40 jumps. You end up running across so many. If no missions like that are available, I just pick a random system far out on the map. Sometimes you are just FSS'ing a first time system for yourself that is all rock and ice, but I go ahead and do that anyway, so that I know for next time, I can just stop, turn on FSS, see there are no good planets and move on.
Anyway, sorry for the long post, I have been enjoying it, relaxing.
P.S. I am talking about surface scanning the planets, hopefully that was what you were talking about as well, haha!
