Before I try it - is it possible to sign up for both sides of the CG? Does that mean you get both the rewards if you deliver enough for each?

yes it's possible and yes you will have both rewards, except for faction-related rewards

If you're talking about the mining CG, you can only pick one and switch between them. But when you switch, you lose the progress from the other.

Sometimes you can align yourself to both, but the mining CG regarding the Platinum is not one such CG.
