Never too late, it's a big universe.. I'm just starting off myself.

do you need people to play it with or can you solo it?
Not too late like almost all games. Galaxy is big enough...

You never need people to play ED, steer clear of recruiters also, they are a pain in the neck.
I started with the year in January and I already caught up to everyone else, except financially.

Also there is no race, go at your own pace, try different things out.
Have fun.

And yes you can play "solo" mode or "private", both are just you with "private" allowing you to invite friends and "open" is for when you want to play with randoms, but the galaxy is pretty big and you don't really meet anyone most of the times.

I dunno what you expect.

The game is not dead, you can solo it although there are things to do in a group of friends.

Its a game that has it's own quirks. Again, i don't know what you're expecting.
You fly your ship, take odd jobs and basically decide for yourself where to go and what to do.
The starting ship is really limited and its best to try to take it easy early on because there are a lot of game mechanics to digest.

Even though it was released over a decade ago, the most recent content update was quite big and is less than 6 months old. New content and ships will keep coming this and next year.
ED is very much alive.
@frumple I haven't seen anyone say that the game is dead here...

A few days ago I believe I saw somebody talk about it and I was going to comment it, but others have said what I would have so I ignored it.

I don't think i have either but sometimes people mindlessly post this game or that is dead. Esp. if it's a little bit older or hasn't had a content update in the past week.

If it had a content update, they complain all mods are broken.
Well, i think you shouldn't bother about them.

No, you can play solo, and I'd recommend playing solo to start with anyway.

As there's no "end" in sight and the only measure of progress is against yourself, your own goals and pursuits... it's never to late to start.

If you need a hand and want to build up some money (to work towards getting into better ships), toss me a DM and I'll gladly use the help hauling materials from my carrier. You can keep all the profits too per each trip (1-3M per trip depending on the size of your cargo).
I'm just starting myself, and for now playing solo mode, eventually will try open and deal with squadrons. Take the beginning slow, there is a lot to digest, and do the training missions several times to get the basic concepts down for flight. One thing to note that wasn't made clear to me and took like a week to realize. You get GROUND missions from inside stations with people or kiosks, you get flight missions from inside your ship using the facility option. (Early on, I would recommend the kiosk missions to transport goods a few times to get the hang of flight through repetition)
Playing alone is a bit tedious because you only see npc population.
I prefer to take a bit of risks and not feel alone.
