Factor 23: Disruptive Mass
I've noticed something odd.

Picture this:
You take off from a pl. port and the port is built upon a regular body, just an avg. planet with nothing out of the ordinary going on. Let's say gravity is 0.4 and there's no atmosphere.

Now, if you try to wake into SC too early (e.g. altitude is still too low) then you risk getting this "disruptive mass" warning, and your FSD loading process is heavily extended (the same thing can happen if another ship is too close in space).

Ok and then here's the odd thing:
When this happens to me I simply deploy a heatsink, and the FSD will now load normal (no delays). And this is ofc fine but from a game mechanical angle I was like "this can't be right?"

So that's my question:
is this a bug, or by design?
Why would cooling affect mass?

Your FSD gets disrupted like that when there is a heavy ship within 5 Km of you. It will stop when you get 5+ Km away from the ship.

It doesn't. It's just coincidental timing.

In the time it takes the heat sink to deploy, you've flown out of the mass lock range of the whichever ship is causing it.

"23" would suggest it was an Anaconda:

Ok thx, but...
that's a huge pile of coincidences, then, it happens every time
(not ruling out your statements, but I want to make sure this is the case here).

Also, maybe I should bring more details to the table:
If I don't deploy a HS it will take a long time Vs when I deploy a HS the effect happens instantly (so as soon as I press my dedicated hotkey the effect takes place, not after the actual deploying of the HS, not seconds later - instantly).

Heading straight up from the port, yeah? Not at a 45 degree angle or anything like that? Check your contacts tab, look at other ships in and around the port... You can't start charging the FSD until you escape the planetary mass lock, but you're still in range of a big ships mass lock factor...

At least, that should be the case...

That being said, I'm going go and to try it out for myself in a bit... The heatsinks should not be negating any mass lock factor... It makes no sense. I have seen stranger things after an update though lol. NPCs with rapid firing railguns was an entertaining one...

Correct but like you said about nearby ships affecting me, that could simply be it.

There's also factors like my own speed and the precise altitude etc so I can't really claim to have tested this to extends heh. But I just noticed that it happens again and again, and I thought I'd found a 'cheat code' (not really a cheat but an exploit maybe).

However, this could also just be purely coincidential, no idea really

Ground construction sites mass-lock you.

Spire sites do the same.

I can't tell it wasn't at a construction site. Too much hauling to be certain about anything lol.
But I'll pay more attention from now on, thx
