I don't understand engineer
I have engineered shields to level three, which was maximum for that engineer, finally got access to engineer that does level 5. Problem is all levels locked, so is it that any engineer that does higher level than you have already you must start from scratch again

Engineer reputation must be increased separately for each engineer regardless of whether or not they offer redundant blueprints.

So yes, you must start from scratch again.

Or you do modification on something else to increase your reputation to level 5

Btw, I think this whole engineering thing is twisted.
Unlock one to get access to the other and grease this one to level 3 you don't want anything to do with just to gain access to the one after..... who tf thought of that lioll

Yea these buggers are chewing through all my materials , this is insane

Hit up a few high grade emission sites here and there for manufactured goods, hit up the Jameson wreck (Or other similar sites) for various types of data, and there are a handful of planets I know of that offer max-grade raw materials such as selenium.

Take some time, stock up, then convert down/side-trade to replenish. It's hard at first but trust me, it's a thousand times better now than before. Used to be an absolute RNG nightmare on how much progress you got each time you ran the blueprint, and I'd often have to run the same one several times to go just from 95% to 100%.

I have just updated one ship shield to level 5 , back at station changed ship to upgrade shields but in station engineer shows only level 3 , so does upgrade levels only to the one ship. I thought that once engineer level 5 unlocked it applied to all ships .

Remember you can also pin a blueprint, so you wouldn't need to visit an engineer to do the same engineering upgrade to another ship of yours. Still requires the same materials, and you wouldn't be able to do an experimental effect if just doing it from the blueprint.

Pinned blueprints work on an engineer by engineer basis. If you want to be able to engineer your shields to level five in stations you have to pin the blueprint from the engineer who can engineer to level five.

I have pinned the blueprint for level 5 , but in station engineer only shows level 3 for other ship

tbh I still dont understand Engineers, I have some available to me but no clue how to get more.

In all honesty, I took one look at engineers when they first released, and went nope, not worth the bother/grind, heard they'd gotten better over the years, but it's still painful to even look at them. I poke a game to play it, not to do a job.

They've gotten quite a bit better than they were on initial release. It's at least no longer RNG on if you're able to progress to the next tier of engineering your module(s), and at max rank it's a flat run of generations equal to the grade you're working on. So max-rank engineer and you're going for FSD range? One run completes grade 1, two runs completes grade 2, etc. Biggest thing now is just getting materials, which has also been made quite a bit better.

Each engineer has their own requirements for unlock. For example, I'm finally getting around to working on Marco to get to Lori. Marco requires Elvira be rank 3-4, allied status with Sirius Corporation to even speak to them/get their invite, and then 25 modular terminals to actually access their services.

Lori requires Marco to be rank 3-4 and a combat rank of Dangerous or higher for the invite, and then 25 units of Kongga Ale to actually utilize their services.

https://inara.cz/elite/engineers/ is your friend when unlocking engineers.

This might help. if the link doesn't work go to DATA on the orange bar and under that engineers. It will tell you which ones you need to know to get to the one you want
