Elite Dangerous

What should I build to avoid constantly flying around for resources again?
A question for those who have already reached this stage.

Let's assume I want to expand my system — settlement, more space stations, etc. What should I construct on a planet so that I don't have to travel 100LY for steel, aluminium, or titanium but can instead gather them locally within the same system?

I assume some kind of mining facility? Then maybe a smelter or something? Is that possible?

Thanks in advance for any tips!

As I understand, yes, what you want to do is kind of possible, but it will take time to develop your system where you can get it to the point where it will supply at least some, or perhaps all, of what you need.

For example, for CMM Composites, you need a high metal content world and a ... refinery/industrial base on the planet? Something like that.

I'm sure within the coming months, someone will figure it all out and present a proper guide on how to build the optimal system with all the stuff needed to be self-sustaining and self-propagating.

This is all so new I'm not sure anyone really knows for sure, but I think we can get some hints from where we are getting supplies for our initial build out (still working on mine)

Most of the commodities for my build out came from refineries. The more scarce CMM comes from ground based refineries, and the slowly produced Insulating Membrane comes from space based refineries, while both seem to have lots of Titanium, Aluminum, and Steel.

You might want to start with refineries, assuming you have the proper planet types, etc., but I have no idea how you would do that or optimize for it.
I would guess the same, a refinery settlement (since that's where we find them in other systems), probably on a HMC. May or may not require other settlements (extraction?) to boost the output.

Still curious to see if the amount produced per tick is linked to the presence of other infrastructure, or is simply tied the global system wealth / development ...

If I was participating in colonization, I would first gather the materials at my carrier, and only then start building.

I am solo player, got no carrier, only Type-8 (yellow one).

You can own a carrier solo. I am solo as well.
Can you offer to purchase mats at the market at your settlement?

So other players could deliver materials to you and make a profit?

That's the kind of MP interaction we need in this so called "MMO"

For now, I can't afford a Type-9, let alone a carrier. I think that since I almost managed to finish a space station in less than a week, from what I've seen, Settlements are much cheaper, so I'll manage that too. The only question is what they'll produce and in what quantity?
Wait to build guides until they set the numbers more permanently after beta period.

If you haven't already, be sure to do both community goals before . With a minimal contribution (very very low effort/time) you can get your T9, it closes out in about a day and a half.

Echoing this. Deliver a single unit of copper to Minerva like I did and you'll be getting a 90mil check in a couple days. 100mil if you turn in a bounty voucher instead. 190mil if both, I think.

Deliver 600-700 tons of goods and you'll be in the top 75%

Honestly, if everyone wasn't so busy trying to meet their deadlines they should all be doing this.
I'll put my system on pause and revisit Minerva before thursday.
