i havent looked at the states but I guess i have mixed feelings on giving out the booster. I had to grind for that one. regular material engineers are one thing, but giving away the guardian tech?? meh.
Beyond that, fitting a Guardian FSD booster can increase your range a bit as well.
I want to split this hair because they get flack for both paywalling stuff (not true), and giving away stuff players had to grind for. Again, not true because it costs actual money.
That's almost $20 for a Guardian Booster.
Yes, someone can skip the grind, and maybe Guardian tech should not be "given away". But it costs more than the game itself, so it's ... fair? Certainly isn't free.
You dont even need an asp. the much cheaper diamondback and dolphin also work really well. For exploration you don't even need anything that expensive.
edit:
unlike combat or hauling the diffrence in how fast you earn isnt that big between cheaper and more expensive ships
guardian stuff isnt some obsure secret anymore. there are plenty of websites cataloguing their locations so giving out a simple booster is akin to giving out a well enginnered FSD
But outside that, i have to say that even a diamondback explorer for exploration is very good.
i still think its lame. theyre giving it away for money, you obviously got what i meant. I am not gonna sit here and argue with you over it especially when you understood the point i was making. go buy the ship if you want. Ill never understand why people come and ask for the opinions of others on something THEY want. Who cares what we think if you already have your mind made up...
Nevertheless, right now with a couple ships for each role, I wouldn't consider it.
I'm still working on getting the guardian tech, but it's honestly not that much of an improvement when I do unlock it, so I'm not going to be jealous of someone who gets it before me.
Also, those of you who have played enough won't see a point in getting it, since you probably have it all unlocked and those who are new to the game, just by unlocking this, doesn't really give them much else, other than a ship they still won't know how to use.
So they can jump further than we could when we started, ok... Good luck surviving out there and not getting bored when you have no idea why you're out there in the first place.
By the time they find out how the game works, some will abandon the game, while others will probably find other ships that appeal them more, or offer them elements they like better. The ship is question is sold as an exploration ship and many of us enjoy the combat in the game and those who stick around will probably use a different ship for combat than the ASP. Therefore, they will store this ship and get that other ship they want, for which they too will have to grind the guardian stuff anyways.
So I don't really mind anyone getting access to these things faster than others. My experience with this game will remain the same and positive regardless how others cut corners.
Not to mention, they might have a guardian component, and I don't, but I've been the first to discover nearly 500 systems, first to map many more planets. Flew with a various others ships and experienced bounty hunting, delivering passengers, mining, trading, messing around with settlements and therefore when I finally unlock guardian stuff, it will feel better!
All I can think of is that feeling I felt in GTA: Online when it released and you earned the money to get one of the most expensive cars back then. It's a feeling that makes driving that car better, however those that came later and bought those bonus money packs and could instantly buy those cars, they won't know what it is like and that's fine, they don't deserve to know it!
And that's how I feel about this game too. Flying a ship and it's components you worked for and deserve will offer you a feeling, those who buy them won't have. So there's nothing to be jealous about.
But you can't take the FSD booster off this ship and use it on another. It's locked to the ship.
It does mean people can get a 69 ly range ship and go exploring without having to unlock any engineers or equipment.
"give away" is the wrong phrase to use for something being sold. It's a bright line issue in places which have strong customer protection laws.
Some people seek other people's opinions on a product they are considering purchasing.
The OP is not asking whether other people have a personal preference for or against the AspX as much as whether the pre-packaged ship is decent value for the price they'll pay.
Planewalker made a great point that the booster is tied to the ship. I haven't thought of that.
I also don't want to argue. The only reason i mentioned it is because somehow with this ship FDev seem to have crossed both people who complain about higher tier equipment being locked behind a paywall (not true since the booster in question can be bought for Cr from at least 50 places), and people like yourself who don't like stuff they've had to earn being made available without merit.
It's not the ARX or the money, it's the work invlolved. I get you fully, and i don't disagree on this point.
I think they're "giving" it this way because there are people who will not have the patience or the time to earn it the long way, so here's a shortcut to a 60+ ly explorer ship.
I have an Asp, and it's currently not being used because i prefer the Cobra for in-bubble exploring and planet-hopping (scans, bio, mat gathering, etc.), and the Type 8 for exploring the zone near the bubble.
Type 8 has a crap range (esp. when i fill it up with shiny rocks and baubles) but the stars are packed in this region so a range of 20ly is sufficient. I plot short-hop routes anyway because i want to hit as many stars as possible.
Also, i kinda wanted to fly the 8 because it's new for me, and i enjoy it's SCO capabilities. It's a fair explorer that can also mine along the way, and it has lots of room for equipment.
Once i finally park it, i will take the Asp out.
And this exploration jumpstart isn't on my to buy list. It is new and hasn't been talked about much so i wanted to read people's opinions.
They seem to match mine. A pretty steep price for an AspX. It costs more than the stock Mandalay for example, or Type 8. Or Cobra MkV!
The booster is the only thing of note. The rest can be had with Cr. Even a maxed out A rated AspX isn't going to cost huge amounts of cash.
Compared to the DBX jumpstart ARX ship, the AspX has the Guardian booster. For the same price.
That makes the AspX jumpstart a better choice.
I can see the point of selling a Python MkII, A-rated and with a shiny paintjob. That is an expensive ship. An Asp, even with a Guardian booster doesn't cost so much.
Not sure i would part with 25,500 ARX for it, now that i own one (sans booster)
It's pretty, and there's nothing wrong with it, but maybe the price is off?
Nah... I've got T8s, Python 2s, and Cobra 5s... I'm mainly flying the Mandalay at the minute, a lot... on both accounts... Not because I paid for it, but because it's an excellent ship for exploring.
Nope. I feel like I spent that money well by supporting the development of this game.
Nope, I bought the C5 and so far I've flown it twice. (I have one for Odyssey ground missions, but tbh I almost always take the Apex.)
I used the T8 for loads of passenger rescues during the war though - best ship for the job.
And I bought the Mandalay on two accounts and use that a hell of a lot, but not because I paid for it. It's just a very versatile ship that can do almost all the Powerplay 2 tasks without changing the loadout.
I also bought the Python 2 and built four different ones for various tasks.
