Elite Dangerous

the CG and "the new road to richdom" question
I did around 20 hours deep space exploration and planet scanning between the bubble and colonia on a side road with many unscanned planets. I also did a bit of exobiology.
Going to the CG deliver point delivering my data I got not really much for it. A few millions, not worth the mentioning. And for the exobiology data I got a bit better rewards, but also meh.

I am not sure why people say you make a fortune with this. What do I do wrong?

As mentioned, First Footfall rewards in Exobiology are where the big payouts are. Stratum pays 95 million for a First Footfall discovery. Scanning water worlds, Earth-like planets, and terraformables will earn you a few million for being the first to find them. I recommend using add-ons to help you locate these worlds. I personally use EDMC with the Bio-Scan plugin and explodata. The EDMC overlay is also helpful since it lets me see important info on my screen as I scan planets. Additionally, I rely on Elite Dangerous Exploration Buddy and EdCopilot. While there are other tools out there, these add-ons work best for me. I don’t scan everything; I mostly focus on Stratum Tectonicas, since they offer the highest payout. I’ll only scan other exo-biology if they can earn me around 16 to 30 million for a First Footfall discovery.

If you follow road to riches and billionaire's boulevard you're not getting the first discovery bonuses.

They're kind of like buying a used lottery ticket.

nah, I don't follow this guide. It was just a name for this new "gold rush" exploration hype.

Basically my question is why people seem to get good money from exploration,
but i tried it in unexplored systems, scanned planets, but the money I got was not really much - I maybe could make 20 times more in this time doing good payed missions or by trading. What is the trick?
For the big bucks you mainly want to look for first footfall planets, ones that you land and disembark on first. Look for bio signatures, any at all on a planet with no other first footfall will net you something decent.. and maybe something huge. Map water worlds, earthlike worlds and terraformables.

The thing about the CG is that it's supposed to reward scanning crappy planets that everyone overlooks in dull systems in/around the bubble that everyone skipped.

But the payout is just ... ?

If icy worlds are worthless, no one scans them.
If you want them scanned, increase their value. Significantly.
If icy worlds are worth 2x a water world, there will be a rush to scan them all.

But, icy worlds *are* crappy.

They will never be worth scanning, and no one will ever scan them.

Right now it's 30 million for scanning 1 world. For new players, that'll get them into a nice A-rated ship.

The top 25% get 125 million.

30 million?

For 1 planet?
Or one system? Any system?

30 million is a huge payout. Where is this infrormation posted?

An icy planet normally pays 5,000 cr for a discovery (not 1st discovery). With a DSS that goes up to something like 7,500 - 9,000 cr. Even 10x that is 90,000 cr. More than a HMC planet, and pretty decent money.
30,000,000 cr blows that away completely.
the " crappy " planets they want scanned for this CG will be the systems that can be colonized for the most part. Are ground bases part of the colonization thing or just space stations? If ground bases are/will be a thing, than this CG for sure as those will be the planets themselves youre building on. (( im behind a few info videos on the subject))

The reward is just a pre eng DSS which is awesome, but also already purchasable.

The mega bucks people make off exploration comes from the x5 bonus for first to scan bio forms on planets. with that x5 bonus, some scans can merit you 80-90M. you find a system with same life on 4-6 planets and youre gonna make yourself 500M easily. Already scanned specimens could make you money, but not nearly the rate as the first scanned ones.

But those "good" scans seem to come only from a few bio forms which are more rare as it seems, so this seems a poker game if you are lucky or not... ?

All bio grow in specific conditions. To find the high value bio, you have to find the planets with the conditions they need to grow.

There are tools which tell which planets you've scanned in a system are capable of supporting which bio. You can then decide whether to map that planet to discover which species it has, and then you can decide whether to land and look for one to see which variant/colour it is.
I just collect them all, and let Vista sort them out.

After 100,000,000 cr, it doesn't matter to me if i get another million or 30. What am i going to spend it on? Liveries cost ARX ;)

I would hand in bio data for 1% of it's value for ARX. Why not? I earned it somehow. The weekly cap is maxed out after handing in a few samples anyway.

As far as i can tell, you did nothing wrong.

I've done both new exploration in the black and mapped rescans. Although first bioscans yield 5x rewards, and you can easily get over 100 million for a great planet, the vast majority of systems you hit will be duds with very little return. So, new exploration actually yields less cr/hr, but it is more fun (IMO).

Yeah, I think so. It is not about the credits. I was curious about all those guys saying "i did 4 short evenings with scanning 600ly from the bubble and did 1.4 billions" and I wondered "wut?, how?".

I took one of my alts out on a 4000 ly round trip, over 6 nights, and came back with 4 billion from exo.

It helps if you have a second account you can just leave out there and use whenever you feel like a bit of exploration.
