Does downloading/uploading data in a settlement trigger an alarm?
Hello, so far, every one of my missions involving data downloads has ended with an alarm being triggered (and I've had several).

- First question - If I download/upload data, but NO ONE is looking at me, does the same process trigger an alarm?

- Or are there some cameras that, even when no one is around, can monitor what I'm doing, as ChatGPT suggested?

- And what if I'm downloading data (e.g., in a low-restriction habitat) which takes 15 seconds, no one saw me at the panel, and I hid somewhere behind a column - If someone enters but DOES NOT NOTICE me, yet passes near the panel from which data is being downloaded, will that trigger an alarm?

The data port shows a Bell icon next to the items that will trigger an alarm, and when you select one for download it shows a warning that downloading that item will trigger an alarm.

Uploading will also trigger an alarm.

Any reason why you're not turning off the alarms first?

No, as usual AI is just making stuff up.

Yes down/uploading certain data triggers a visible alarm that NPCs from even outside the building will investigate if you haven't yet disabled the alarms system.

A Bell icon - thanks a lot! I didn’t even know something like that existed. I’m jumping in now and heading to the next settlement.

BTW, I tested in a building where there was no one, and the alarm went off, so clearly, a Bell icon will solve this problem.

As for disabling the alarm, it wasn’t a big mission. The first building on the edge, with easy access to the panel. Usually, I’d escape, sell the data to my PowerPlay faction, and head back. I’ll test it now with disabling the alarm.

How will I know that the alarm is disabled?

I went into the Power Centre, clicked "disable alarm," and then someone noticed me and realised I wasn’t supposed to be there.

Did I actually disable the alarm?

Is there some kind of icon or confirmation?

If I enter again and someone notices me, will they just give a warning again, or will I be attacked straight away the second time?

The panel will show Alarm System Disabled.

The problem is that right in the middle of disabling the alarm, the NPC shouted at me. Then, the second time, I sneaked in to check, and yes, the alarm was off, but when the same NPC saw me for the second time in the restricted zone, they immediately started shooting...

I thought maybe somewhere in the logs, on the terminal, or some icon or light might indicate something.

First time you're spotted in a restricted zone you get a warning (red icon top left)

Second time, it's shoot to kill.

When Odyssey launched there was no first warning.
