How to increase rank in PowerPlay 2.0?
Hi, it's Sunday, I had nothing to do, so I started playing PP 2.0 seriously. I completed the Weekly Assignment, all the missions, and a few other PP 2.0 tasks. I earned 18,270 merits and...

I advanced to Rank 1.

How does this work? Don't I advance immediately to the rank based on my merits? Or is it updated weekly on Thursday? Or maybe it's one level per week? So, if I exceeded 18,000 merits in one day, does that mean I will reach Rank 5 (15,000 merits) in 5 weeks?

Do one more thing that involves powerplay and you will get promoted to the proper rank. Just scan a ship or whatever.
The points gap does seem to grow a bit as you go, but just doing bounty hunting should yield 100-400 per ship kill in a haz res... plus the points for target scanning them...

Once you complete a set of weekly tasks, you should be promoted according to however many merits you have earned. here are no timed pauses or such, I'm pretty sure there are players who have gone from 1 to 100 in a single day. If you only completed 4 of 5 weekly tasks, you would still be rank 1, but as soon as you complete the 5th your rank will catch up to your accumulated merits.

Rank Merit
1 0 merits, completion of the five initial weekly missions
2 2,000 merits
3 5,000 merits
4 9,000 merits
5 15,000 merits
6+ +8,000 merits per Rank (ex: Rank 8 would require 39,000 merits)

When I did the first set of weeklies on four of my alts, they all jumped to rank 5 immediately.

My main is rank 79 now, mostly from doing weeklies.
Weeklies will give you a rank or two per week doing those.

Alternately, bounty hunting will give you a rank or so every hour.

Laser mining is easy and gets you lots of ranks relatively quickly. I could average 5 ranks per hour or so mining in a Platinum hotspot 20km from the center of a RES.

Only caveat to that, you must mine in a system controlled by your power and sell in the same system to get merits.

Any idea, where to find those one below in Acquisition systems: unoccupied?

On-foot operations (Odyssey)

*Collecting association, political or Powerplay data from Odyssey settlements in any type of system, and handing them in at a Power contact. For reinforcement systems, the data must be obtained and handed-in in the system to reinforce. For undermining, the data must come from the system to undermine, and be handed-in in any system under your Power control. For acquisition, the same rule as undermining applies, but the data must be handed-in in a fortified or stronghold system of your Power within 20Ly and 30Ly, respectively.

*Collecting Powerplay goods from Odyssey settlements in acquisition and undermining systems, and handing them in at a Power contact. For undermining, the goods must come from the system to undermine, and be handed-in in any system under your Power control. For acquisition, the same rule as undermining applies, but the goods must be handed-in in a fortified or stronghold system of your Power within 20Ly and 30Ly, respectively.

Wiki says:
Power contacts can be found at almost every space station or surface port.

But^^
Recently, I flew around all the stations in the Reinforced system and landed at one station (Odyssey, the blue one), but there was no Power Contact – so are they only in ports on the ground and in space, BUT NOT in Odyssey settlements? Am I right?

Not Ody settlements, no.
When you're flying around (in normal space or super cruise), scan EVERYTHING.

Sure it's only 20 points per scan... But it adds up: I've jumped 7 ranks, and I only pledged last week... If you're in a target rich environment you can just keep hitting "next target". Allies will automatically ping you back and give you the points, so you don't even need to look at them.

This might only work in systems controlled by your power though, not sure?

It definitely works in acquisition, just been getting scans there.
