Elite Dangerous

Is space legs worth it?
Hi, I am a returning player and I never got the DLC and I have come full circle with the games in my library

Do you enjoy playing with others in Open? If so, then it's borderline mandatory at this point given so many people run Odyssey by default now.

Do you want to engage in new activities that are simply not possible to do in a ship on the basis of the fact that ships can't go inside small buildings? Then yes.

Do you want to scan plants for millions, if not billions? Sure, why not then.

If however you are content with just doing spaceship things, and you don't play much with others, then it's not particularly significant. This is because Frontier has done a fairly poor job of intertwining Odyssey content with Horizons. That's not to say I think what Odyssey offers is bad, and it does offer a fair few things to do, but it's also very easy to ignore entirely, as nothing you need for your ships is gotten from on-foot activity.

I never did any on foot missions but I'm happy I got the Odyssey just so I can get off the ship and go into concourse. Don't know if it's mandatory to do exobio. but I made a sh** load of credits with it

It's mandatory for exobio, yes. Unless we see Odyssey being rolled into base game one day, should that ever happen, I think it will always require a suit and getting out of a vehicle to serve as a hook for the DLC.
If you like exploration, it's a no brainer.
It's not only good for exobiology. Of course, for money it's a no brainer as already said.
But i enjoyed a lot missions in some settlements, it's very fun as much for fights or stealth gameplay.

Odyssey gives you a ton more stuff to do in game.

Plus you'll never get the Type 8, Python Mk II, Mandalay or Cobra Mk V in the base game unless you shell out real cash.

To me, Odyssey is not awful, nor is it fantastic, it is just OK.

The ground missions do offer a whole new mode of game play which can be an interesting diversion, but I can get the same effect by just by playing a different game.

TLDR: I don't regret buying Odyssey, and do feel like I would be missing out if I hadn't, but the main game is the best part of the package.

Yes
Doing the ground conflicts can earn you a bunch of credits and it's fairly easy (to me)
Odyssey is worth it in regards to additional gathering you can perform as stated by the community here.

I forgot to mention - there's a lot of Odyssey content in powerplay 2.0 as well.
It's very complementary to the base game.
Knowing that it's a DLC, if I'd not have it, I would get it.

The exobiology pays fortune... i went for short trip into the black 3,5k LY, about 4-5 days in the Black, discovered some new systems, but scanning Biology on planets with no 1st footfall is a goldmine, started the trip with 10 mil, came back with 550 mil, the most i got paid was for 1 plant 20mil + 4x for being the first who scanned it on that plannet so 80mil

if you dont feel like paying full price. You can wait for a sale or buy a key from a third party store that earns from bulk sale buying.
In the beginning i wasn't sure i liked odyssey content, but i love to raid bases for all their stuff.
I do it for powerplay as well as BGS.
Then i sell the stuff to carriers of people, they sell real good. Just waiting for the transaction error bug to be undone

Yes. Get it already (sale price or not). So much more to do in the biggest space sim of our time.
It seems interesting that there is more Odyssey content for powerplay.
