Don't quit. Take a rest today and tomorrow we can fly. I have 2nd account to grind so I can help.
Other then that, the safe routes to get a capital going are either mining or trading using markets. Make note to play it in solo if you don't want to be bothered by other players in game.
The least that can happen is that you might get interdicted by an NPC because of the cargo you have. Interdiction can be escaped (and is not that difficult to do, especially in solo).
Combat missions can be done with a beginner ship, however take in to account to go for the lower payout missions because you'll can have a hard time playing against the higher rewards.
How could you lose a 47 MILLION ship? That's very sloppy.
But i do agree it's unfair.
You can die, and ...nothing happens.
Your ship blows up, and you lose cargo and exploration data but keep materials, coins, and bobbleheads.
You are given a last chance to sell other assets to cover the rebuy, but no more.
The only exception is so called ARX ships because they are purchased with real money. They will never be completely gone. Only until you raise the money.
Tough loss.
I would not say trading is good at all when starting out. The Sidewinder and starting capital are not enough.
Better look into courier missions. Deliver stuff and messages, and recover stuff from crash sites. With Odyssey you get some extra on foot missions that are low risk and fairly easy to do. Like steal data from an outpost, or smuggle things into places.
Those missions can pay 120k-660k a pop. Way more than trading can pay.
Another way to earn big money early, is to go exploring. You need only some 250k to buy and outfit an Adder, and you can go places, scan systems and sell the information for six figures.
With the addition of a Detailed Surface Scanner (250k), it's possible to scan high value planets that pay extremely well compared to the pish you can earn trading.
Pirates don't chase explorers (though human players might, so fly in Solo when returning with a big haul of exploration data.
If you can afford to outfit a Cobra MkIII, you can quite easily reach systems where you can even score 1st footfall.
And there's nobody aroud so you can earn your millions in peace.
