If it's not pristine then I completely ignore it tbh.
I've just switched from core mining, but so far all I've been doing is pristine, hence the question. I'm finding mining to be the easiest way to earn merits, but there are a lot more opportunities for Major metallic rings than Pristine metallic rings.
I previously concentrated on core mining. After trying laser mining the last couple of days, I've found that laser mining platinum feels about 1 1/2 to 2 times better at generating credits & merits (albeit in a larger ship). I should have switched years ago.
Also, is the class of the ring a measure of how many asteroids are in a given volume, or a measure of what mineral concentrations you will find in the asteroids? I've read both in different posts but they seemed to be mostly people guessing rather than testing.
