Good combat ship and weapons for Hot Jupiter materials gathering?
I just learned about this place as a source of Conductive Components, among other engineering materials, so came along in my Cobra Mk 3 with lasers and multicannons, but the Orcas that appear always get away really quickly, my lasers hardly seem to make a dent in their shields. Have things changed that much since I put this ship together a few years ago? What's a recommended ship spec and tactic for taking these guys down before they can jump away? Is there an alternative to blowing away cruise ships to get these kind of materials? I tried grinding signal sources in anarchy systems but got nothing close to the Conductive Components that I'm after.

Conductive Components are low grade, I'd just gather higher grades from missions/bounty hunting and trade for them.

Where do you go to trade them?
Material Traders, in the Contacts at Stations. Use Inara to find what you need.
Thanks! Now I just need to get those combat kills for material rewards... :D

Re engineer your stuff. WARNING IF YOU HAVE A CUTTER WITH CLASS 5 PRISMATICS from back in the day. Leave it alone. They took away the optimal mass on the shields Currently the lowest you can put is class 6 on a Cutter. Keep the legacy engineered ones for that extra 32 spaces of cargo.

Interesting stuff re the Cutter, but I don't have that ship. I don't like it when things like that suddenly change in a game.

Hot Jupiter is old info, way out of date.

Since the engineering overhaul you can get all you need from High Grade Emissions.

I fly my cargo cutter unshielded, with heavy duty engineered hull. Never lost one yet.

I might have to try this myself. Since I made the mistake of re-engineering my class 5's

All you rly need

I prefer to start with raw into scan data into manufactured.

The tour in general is pretty great

Things changed an update or two ago

Now the ways to gather are:

Encoded, go to Jameson's Memorial, and use material traders
Raw, go to the crashed anacondas or brain trees
Manufactured, HGEs

Mission rewards have also been broadened to include all materials so there's not even a need to go looting stuff any more.

he is doing High grade emssions, he is going to jameson what are you talking about?
Isnt he doing all that in the video?
And then for Raw Materials everything he does still works like a charm.

Thank you, I was acquiring them the old ways. I'm going to have to ask a lot of silly questions it seems.

He will almost certainly talk about getting 4 materials from each HGE, and flying from one to another endlessly. Now you get over 100 at each one so you only need one of each type.

This site probably didn't exist back then either: https://edgalaxy.net/hge

Jamesons has dozens of materials per scan now, not 4.

A lot of those old videos bang on and on about relogging and grinding, especially Exigeous's Guardian one, and none of that is relevant any more.
