Advanced Docking Computers on the Beluga Liner?
Is it just my system or game; or, does the advanced docking computers simply not like the Beluga Liner?

It keeps banging the edges of the toaster slot on entry or exit, to outright flying head-on into the wall around the toaster slot (but not even close to going through it) and continuing to thrust into it as if it can just break through the wall to get out of the station? I've even had it get wedged going through the toaster slot where there's a grille surrounding the slot, causing me to get trespassing fines before I could disable the docking computers, get it unstuck and clear the station.....

Is this what I should just expect when I use the docking computers in the Beluga Liner?

Yes. The Advanced Docking Computer has issues with larger ships, but I've never seen as many bumps and bangs as I did with the Beluga. Even my Cutter and Type 9 haven't had that many issues.

isn't it something to do with the tail? The tail is too bulky for smooth transitions through the slot, but if you deploy the landing gear the tail folds down making it a bit easier to fit?

Although I don't know if you can manually deploy the landing gear while under auto dock control.

Auto dock has issues with the weird hitbox of the wide tail things. The odd wall-smash behavior is because it's not braking as Auto dock expects, it's trying to path and can't follow turns because it's going too fast.
Type 10 has similar issue, spoiler gets snagged.

It's hard to manual dock at first but once you can land a Beluga, Cutter, or Type 10 you can land anything.

Funny thing is, the advanced docking computer works way better with large ships on Horizons 3.8, using it with 4.0 these few days on my Corvette has constantly smashed the front of my ship

i have noticed that sometimes being in multiplayer or private group with other players causes some kind of desync problems which makes autopilot making weird stuff, so try on solo and see if problem persists.

As a general rule, whatever ship you have, you should never let the docking computer engage outside the station. Sooner or later your ship will get blown up if you do that. There are many reasons how that can happen. Always fly your ship through the slot before letting it engage, and you will have a happy life.

8 out of 10 times it works, as always. :lunar2019crylaughingpig:

But the mailslot issue with HVY ships has been getting more frequent, esp. when I engage docking assist from outside the station. In my humble opinion that is. So my rule of thumb, here on EDO 4.x, is to only use it inside the station - AFTER you passed through. It sucks, but even my Conda had scratches on the paint thx to the "advanced" docking computer.

Thanks for the replies. :)

Worst I've had when entering the station on auto docking was the glancing blow passing through the slot. All of the big problems of flying into the wall and getting tangled up happens on auto launch when trying to exit the station. So, I think I'll just turn off auto launch when in the Beluga, and be done with it. I'll definitely try the landing gear trick, though, when flying through the slot manually... And probably work on manually docking the Beluga without the computers. I'm fine docking smaller ships, but never tried it with the Orca or Beluga yet...

Don't know if it's the lag/sync issue, as I do play mostly on solo...

Chuck that stupid advanced docking computer. All it does is waste time, and it can jam you in the slot. Get an ordinary docking computer instead and fly out of the station,

You've been warned about engaging the DC outside of the station. Do it at your peril. Don't come moaning here when you lose your ship, cargo and mission. Most times it works fine. One time, it won't!
