It really doesn't take all that long to get enough credits in-game to buy a decent small ship like a Cobra Mk III, then you can do missions, exploring, a little combat, almost anything.
If you do want to spend real cash on a ship, the Cobra Mk V would probably be better. Get the Stellar edition. If you just buy the basic model as a newb you would need to spend a couple million on outfitting it before it's actually useful. Most ships, the base model is pretty worthless, you have to spring for upgrades. Just don't buy the undercoating.
However
It will cost a few million to replace if it goes boom. The prebought ones have much, much lower replacment cost if you oopsie die and need to rebuy.
So, what are your finances Ike, if $30 means boo diddly to you, go for it. If that's groceries one week, then earn the money in-game, it's not hard.
Buy it and jump in the action.
You can earn a billion in a play session doing anti-xeno. If you team up with the right people.
