One is that you use a site such as Inara, which I will link, to search for commodities, including based on whether you want to buy or sell.
https://inara.cz/elite/commodities/
The alternative option, and what I do as I'm a giant weirdo, is to simply learn what economies and system states produce what and for what sort of prices, and just use the galaxy map from there.
I readily admit Inara is far more efficient. I just find it a bit dull myself.
For normal commodities, selecting and clicking them in the sell window will show nearest.
Clicking any materials in the "Inventory" in the cockpit will also list where to find them when opening the detail window. Select and click to do that.
I will assume you speak of commodities. In which case, Inara beat Elite tool in every possible way.
I was talking about ingame, not 3rd party. (i even specified that precise locations are listed)
-opening a webpage and typing/searching is not faster than looking at a list ingame btw.
The HGE finder is the best tool for mats currently.
3rd party are not always faster but better. You can use them at any place, doesn't have a ridiculously low range and, ironically, are are usually more accurate. The other day the ingame tool showed me a better price at a station nearby that Inara said was not better. When I went there, the price was the one Inara was showing, not the one the ingame tool was showing.
I have a strong suspicion prices and quantities in-game are only updated when a human player visits a system, so if nobody has been there recently it could be outdated.
The only way to get accurate prices is to dock at a station; someone just bought or sold a big quantity and the price will change. Transient just like megaships. =)
