I think we should rank up a bit faster, if i have to grind that long for a single rank, i have to say no thx..really..it´s insane and non-rewarding, definitly no fun for me.
I enjoy fighting, exploring and sometimes even trading, but doing hundrets of missions to gain a single rank is just too much for me.
- Is it beneficial/ useful to do the illegal missions to rank up as well, like delivering slaves and so on..?
- If i decide to make a break and go fighting/exploring/whatever, will i loose rank-progress over time?
1) Yeah, its fine. The only thing that matters is that the mission comes from an Empire Minor Faction, and you successfully complete the mission.
Colateral damage, such as reducing another Empire Minor Faction's system Influence, and taking a Rep hit from being scanned with illegal cargo, won't affect your Rank Up progress.
2) No. Our Rank Up "EXP" or "Skill Points" or whatever the official name is doesn't degrade over time. You keep any you've acquired for life.
Can you explain the difference between a minor faction and a non minor faction?
What I did yesterday was move to an entirely new system and started missions Only for those factions that actually have an Imperial insignia next to their names and completely ignored all others no matter how easy the mission was.
I got a rank up within hours where it had been forever, weeks since I had a rank up.
I am guessing a minor faction is anything in Empire space without an Imperial insignia?
If I get another rank up today I will think I'm on the right track as far as faster progression and will reply back one way or the other today.
All those factions you see in the list inside the system are Minor Factions. If a Minor Faction is allied with a Major Faction it will have the Major Faction's insignia, as you've already noticed.
Minor Factions that do not have a Major Faction insignia are Independant Minor Factions.
You can read a summary what each Minor Faction is all about in the Status tab on your Right Panel.
As I said earlier, all Rank Up progression is permanent. If you had been running missions for Empire Minor Factions previously, you were already making progress towards your next rank.
That is Gold, thanks.
Apparently I was in Empire space working more often than not for independent factions thinking that being in Empire space was enough. This apparently occured after I had moved to a new area due to finding a very good trade route.
Anyway, the gist is this.
Check the factions and be sure they are allied with the major you wish to rank up. The insignia is a good clue.
Otherwise you are wasting your time? I think... Yeah? ... Not losing faction. But certainly not gaining.
That's right.
Thx
Ah ok, because i had the same problem and suddenly i could buy both imperial ships (what i did, they are very nice).
My Imperial Clipper at Trader Fitting [coriolis.io]
Go to the Tamar system and dock an an Empire station. Complete only money donation missions. When they're all completed, switch to Solo mode and do them again. Then switch back to open... continue doing this until you see Naval Progression missions. Doing that, I got my clipper in under an hour.
Meanwhile i got the ship.. ;) I always did several missions at once, donated as much as i could everywhere untill i got my first rank up and after a while i was lucky and got a mission from the empires fleet, that gave me an instant rank up too ;)
I just had to collect some illegal chemical stuff, that was floating in a nearby system and bring it back to the station. As i came back i got scanned and had to pay a 9800 cr fine, but it was worth it, because of the rank up ;)
