Elite Dangerous

Elite Dangerous

Emperor Hengist Duval (Lets talk about it)
With Senator Blaine giving that surprising annoucement of Hengist's recovery, we now learn that Emperor Hengist Duval will resume state functions within a matter of days.

~OOC~
Ok I am very new to the ED universe. I will state right now I havent a clue what Hengists role was BEFORE the coma. What claim does he have to the throne? ( I assume he is the most legit claim now, pushing Aislings claim down?)

Is this man going to be a power? Is he in a position to unite the Duvals? I am sure I am not asking all the right questions but is someone willing to give a general explaination? I would love you for it!

Lets discuss what this means in the political sphere, and even in economical standing if any. Minor factions to large.

Imagine the Empire to be like ancient Rome::

Hengist Duval is the Emperor.
The Empire's herarchy is made up of the Emperor (Hengist Duval)
and his senators (Denton Patreus, Aisling Duval, Arissa Lavigny-Duval and Zemina Torval).

The closest in line to have a claim on the throne, after his Grace Hengist dies someday, is actually Aisling.
But the Emperor decided to put up Lavigny instead.. Despite her not being a Duval actually..
Really! Very interesting.
And the whole reason I chose Aisling as a pledged power is her legit claim. (And stance on slavery)
So Hengist is THE Emperor? I did not know he backed Lavigny, I am going to have to dig up more source material I am starting to think my ignorance of this topic is causing more confusion.

Do you think this news wll begin to change the political landscape of the existing powers that are Empire?
I know Aisling and her massive CMDR support would not be something easy to diminish.

Again I may be asking the wrong questions but would love to hear more Ekol. And others! :D
I'm terribly sorry but this entire thread cannot actually exist, since I am told on good authority that Elite Dangerous has no plot or storyline. So, as you were, people. Nothing to see here.
/sarcasm
Either way they are all just space dust!! FOR ZACHARY HUDSON!! FOR THE FEDERATION!! OBEY MY AUTHORITAYYYYYY!!
Who says Aisling has the highest claim for the throne after Hengist? It's very unclear who has the actual claim, because:

- Hengist openly disinherited his son Harold - father of Aisling. And her with him.
- Hengist has a (illegimate) daughter with Florence Lavigny --> Arissa which he favours for his succession. After his marriage with Florence, Arissa would be legitimate.

Problem with both, Aisling and Arissa is, that apparently only male descendants are allowed to be Emperor....

Zemina Torval and Denton Patreus are Senators but have no real claim. But they are strong and could take the throne nontheless.
I think the list you provided is a great example of the Empire open to some changes. Aside from Aislings father she has massive CMDR support. When for example a sub faction fanatic to her cause like the Aisling Angels has a fleet capable of destroying capital ships, you cannot deny the legitamacy of the power they weild.

Im not saying that the AA has a pure conquer mission, but capable.

Do you think that Hengist will openly condemn the Princess? Again this is all speculation, and I dont know a ton about the overall lore of ED.
But already learning a lot from the few posts so keep it coming!

I think Hengist condemns the views of his son and of Aisling, because 'free the imerpial slaves'...?! WTF?!
The cliens system with imperial servantship is the foundation imperial society is built upon. Imperial slaves are no 'real' slaves. They still have the rights of imperial citizens. Most of them sold themselves into temporally limited slavery because they fell into dept. Honour and responsibility for your own actions are important values in the Empire. The 'slaves' are free to go when their dept is cleared. This is also why it is not allowed to sell imperial slaves outside of the empire. (they'd become real slaves this way, without the rights of citizens)

Hengist's intentions before his coma were to marry Florence Lavigny and thus - after Harold had been disinherited - Arissa would be his legitimate daughter and next in line to climb the throne after his death.

Arissa herself stands for justice and virtue (see her profile in PP).

Patreus has a very strong military. When he really would attempt a coup and take the throne it is likely he would succeed. But it would be hard - politically - for him to keep the other senators on his side.

Torval is a tycoon and favours imperial slavery to reach her economic goals. But still she's a woman and not part of the Duval family. So I'd say her claim on the throne is the weakest of them all. (She would favor Patreus' claim btw.)

I appreciate the post Tiberius. I dont have much more to add aside from stating that those who are against slavery usually speak on the curruption within the system.

Willing bond slaves being held longer, being traded on a illegal market, or used for wrong reasons beyond contracting.

I am very much an Empire guy, I still havent found my place in a RP perspective but holding to many values with mission choice and action.
Its cool to see what will happen!
He is dDDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD ;(
Duval is dead
Wait what? I haven't logged into the game today. Is the Emperor dead?
