I use mouse & keyboard for VR all the time! I feel pretty at home with it. I would say the natural state of the bindings would be hard, for I rebound everything in a way that makes way more sense where you hardly ever move your hands from WASD.
PIP management? Alt+WASD. Maps? ` & ALT+`. Targeting? R = cycle, shift+r = straight ahead, etc.
Cycle weaps = alt+right mouse click. FA-off, mouse key 4, heat sinks, mouse key 5, cell banks alt+mouse 5.
I have nothing past the letter "T" on my keyboard that I use, so I never have to look down to re-align myself after having to find "k" or "j" for some super strange bind.
For VR or not, I am a much better pilot because of it. I would consider looking at some YT videos that talk about good rebindings.
If your VR isn't right at your PC, I would suggest getting a wireless mouse/keyboard? They won't be as responsive as a hard line, but unless your far away a good pair will do just fine really. I've never had that problem so I don't have many suggestions here for that
That decision is entirely up to you, though I'm sure I speak for many when I say Elite: Dangerous is by far the best VR experience around.
The game doesn't support VR controller "wands". They can be made to work, sort of, with some tricks. But the game wasn't designed for those controllers.
Now that is interesting . So ED can be played without keyboard and mouse? I have a warthog HOTAS from when I thought SC was going to be a thing, and I am very familiar with HSC voice packs . But not actually being able to see the HOTAS IN VR ? IE: No Mans sky I can actually grab the throttle and stick of my ship in VR . It is great that way.
You might want to play a bit on a normal screen, while you get used to various controls that the game throws at you. This way you can use a cheatsheet.
It is easy - it is called muscle memory! I got all the essentials on emy 4 mouse thumb side keys, the extra threee on top as well as using the mouse rad and my left hand around WASD, QE and space and shift and R...
easy to play blindfolded you never miss a key... just play a day or two without the HMD and once its all in your muscle memory use the VR headset! or get voice control for some stuff!
Some VR sets have more pixel density in particular colours. You might want to try to change your HUD to blue or green - it might give you some visual improvements.
I assume that you have already pushed the SuperSampling as high as your graphics card can handle.
