Profit from Piracy
Question to all the pirates out there, Is there any substantial profit from looting other ships (player or npc) or is it something people just do for fun?

Piracy is not killing people in type6's, piracy is robbing them. (The code)

Today I got back to the game after some time. Logged in and looked the Galnet news. I read the article about terrorist attack on Mackenzie Relay at Cemiess system. I modified my minning Type7 with big passenger cabins and flew almost 200ly to take people out of a burning station. Everything was going fine. 5Mm from the station to the rescue vesseI. I met a few people in this area doing the same thing (which is rescuing refugees from a burning station). After a solid 1 hour flying back and forth and helping people out I got interdicted by some guy on my way back to the carrier. I stopped my ship because there is absolutely no way to escape from interdiction if you fly a stock Type7. After I submitted the guy shot me down in literally 1 hit. 1 hit from his weapons and my rescue vessel got destroyed (it has lightweight alloy and 3D shield after all). 150 innocent people including the pilot died in 1 second for nothing. 150 people!! Imagine shooting down an Airbus A320 taking people out of war zone just for fun. You would be called the 2nd Bin Laden and your whole life CIA would look for you no matter in which hole you hid yourself. Biggest terrorist on a global scale.

Is that what you call piracy?

I can't understand what is the point of that? Do you fell good now about yourself? Shooting down 150 innocent people onboard a RESCUE VESSEL(!) with some full engineered fighter. I must say you'r the man. You can by proud of yourself you gained some honor today. You are a very good ED player indeed.

It's very fun to get tons of credits.

An interdicted Type 9 is around 240 tons of LTD's, a Type 7 around 130. Talking about NPC's, indeed. And the process is fun and not too dangerous, mining ships don't fight back, or use mines, easy to avoid if you are not slept, or don't put a big fight. Always plunder in anarKy systems.

The problem with being a pirate is that sooner or later you will get scanned by the authorities, either flying about or entering a base.

In ED, the cops don't pull you over...they just open fire. And there is usually three or four of them, so the ending is quite predictable.

Wrong, if you learn how to smuggle things you will never be scanned.

Wrong too. A pirate can't destroy the other ship, otherwise he gets no booty. I never destroy my prey...well, perhaps they die floating in the void when they run out of oxygen, I should equip a repair limpet in my piracy ship for next mission. Like a modern Robin Hood.

Aye slipping into the mailslot before being scanned is easy, Stopping my cutter from hitting the other side of the station while pushing 400m/s on the other hand is the tricky part.

A mix of silent running and a moderate speed will do the trick. I don't use the cutter for piracy though, I have a clipper and an Anaconda, easier to stop those.

Ah here we go, I was waiting for people to start crying about murderhobos.
For the record: a stock T7 can absolutely survive submitting to a modded FDL long enough to high wake, you're just bad.

A non-engineered FDL with a plain huge beam and 4 medium multicannons (nothing fancy, all gimbaled) will strip the stock T-7 shields in less than 2 seconds. Add a few more seconds to knock out its power plant, and the T-7 is dead. Long before it can finish charging its FSD for high-waking.

And I don't even talk about Pack-Hounds, Plasma Accelerators, or Railguns. The T-7 doesn't stand a chance, if interdicted by a reasonably (not even top-end) equipped FDL.

You said it yourself, use chaff and learn to fly my dude.
Stock =/= store bought, I mean non-engineered. 5A shield, 3 shield boosters + chaff, 4 pips go into SYS after your sick FA off flip. All of a sudden a tanky boy.
To be fair T7 is an awful awful ship and one I won't wish on anyone to fly more than once.
I do routinely fly a shieldless Cutter filled with 20+ mill of cargo in Open Play, you're all welcome to have a go at me. Pro tip: bring something fast.

Just inviting disaster.

So you would think. Thing is, the average ganker in this game is way worse a pilot than I am. That's even if I see players the places I go to. When community goals were a thing, that was the only place you'd even concievably get nabbed. God bless that one guy trying to steal my Slaves in an Adder. o7

For the record: 3/4 FSD high-wake charge was already done. Maybe if I was quick enough I could escape then. But then like I said... I got to the game after some time...
It's Grom missiles and a full wing of FDLs I would watch out for. Then you're screwed.
My advice, junk the T7 by flying it into Jackson's Lighthouse and don't rebuy it.
Strong shields and countermeasures, 4pips to SYS. A lone ganker is no threat.

And this what I can call piracy. It is actually quite cool doing something like that. But destroying rescue vessel full with innocent people is pure terrorism with no profit at all. One thing I don't get... why are they not minning in solo mode?

Two kinds of people in this world, CMDR, those with brass balls and those who cry on community forums about being killed in a video game.
